The Amateur Boxing Association was formed in the 1880s and changed its name to the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) in the 1990s and then in 2014 became England Boxing https://www.englandboxing.org/about/our-history/ The ABA is the Amateur Boxing Alliance and has been around since around 2016 - here's why

Re: ABA & BIBA AFFILIATION AGREED
The ABA used to include England,Wales,Scotland and Ireland many years ago. Then a few years ago there was a split between the home nations. Then Sport England was formed, and it is just messy and diluted now. I honestly think this is one of the reasons boxing has become a minority sport now. And for the record a know of at least one boxing website and two promoters that did pretty much the same deal in principle. I e either broadcasting or some kind of partnership. I'm going back a few years now but the real diehards will know who I'm talking about. Hope it all works out this timeSeanBrennan wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 11:56I have so much to learn, I though Boxing England was the ABA.LucaDiCaro wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 10:11As far as aware just one ABA, but of course there is Boxing England and expect many people think of them as ABA too

Keith said that Frank approached them so would guess that’s who the promoter was
Thank you

Re: ABA & BIBA AFFILIATION AGREED
Luca, brain scanners. Have they been successful in terms of preventing any injury during or after any fights you have staged. Has any boxer been directly saved as of yet by the use of the scanner?
Just interested in knowing if the technology has paid any dividends as of yet.

Yes and no - haven’t had any issues on a BIBA events yet but a few years ago we picked up a swelling on the brain of a boxer who was KOd on a Queensberry event (Ross and Alan’s not Frank’s Queensberry)MasterG wrote: ↑09 Mar 2024, 09:30 Luca, brain scanners. I was quite annoyed with the doctor in attendance as he said the fighter was ok and no need to go to the hospital luckily though boxer and coach listened to me and went to hospital - the coach contacted me the following day to thank me as the hospital scan showed a clear swelling on the brain

Re: ABA & BIBA AFFILIATION AGREED
As I understand it Alba, the old ABA no longer exists and was superceded by Sport England.
The ‘new’ ABA was formed as a result of a split at Sport England and includes many of the old ABA clubs.

Sport England oversees the workings and funding of National Governing Bodies and had no direct involvement with changes made to the structure of amateur boxing in England.Frostieballs wrote: ↑10 Mar 2024, 05:37As I understand it Alba, the old ABA no longer exists and was superceded by Sport England.

The Amateur Boxing Association of England Ltd (ABA)changed their name to England Boxing Ltd following a re-structuring of the Board in 2013.
Regional division - the London Amateur Boxing Association -, unhappy at the introduction of professionals into the amateur ranks via the Olympic Games broke away from England Boxing and along with clubs from other regions, primarily located down south, created the Amateur Boxing Alliance (ABA) about 7 years ago?
The traditional term 'ABA' continues to be used by England boxings regional associations - Midlands ABA, Eastern Counties ABA etc., It's become a generic term but there is no connection with the ABA - 'Amateur Boxing Alliance'.
