He beat a guy who'd fought twice in four years. Just want to point that out.elmersalsa wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 13:45 Today marks 53 years of the greatest and most anticipated fight of all time.

The great Muhammad Ali loses for the first time as a professional boxer.

Thanks, I wasn't aware. In fact I don't think that has ever been mentioned before. In light of this news I now consider the Ali-Cleveland Williams fight the greatest fight in history.jwfg wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 13:50He beat a guy who'd fought twice in four years. Re: March 8, 1971: Smokin' Joe Frazier Finest Hour
The great Smokin' Joe Frazier won fair and square. He fought his ass off. Muhammad Ali was great in that fight, even in defeat.
Was Ali rusty? It wasn't Smokin' Joe's problem.
Was Ali in his prime? Some say yes. Some say no. I believe that Ali's prime was 1964-72. That's 8 years.
Does this win consolidated Frazier as an all-time great heavyweight? Yes. It was the biggest and most anticipated fight of all time. Frazier won fair and square. He beat a great champion that was undefeated. And this win erased all doubts of who was the real heavyweight champion of the world.
It was one of the greatest boxing performances ever. Probably the greatest.

Whenever FOTC is mentioned someone will come running to Ali's defence. Just you wait and we'll soon be informed that Manila was the real FOTC.DrDuke wrote: ↑09 Mar 2024, 08:16Fav excuse of alibois.jwfg wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 13:50He beat a guy who'd fought twice in four years. No. Ali-Frazier was billed as The Fight of the Century and Ali-Frazier III was billed as the Thrilla In Manila. I'm not trying to change that. Just stating some facts and being accused of being a fanboy for it, while I'm far from it.
