What fight shocked you most?
What fight shocked you the most, one of them fights that you didn’t remotely think of the loss?
I remember I went round Rhino’s house to watch Lewis v Rahman. I remember a couple of weeks before I was looking after Frank Maloney in London someone stopped Frank and I picked up on the following:
“Lenny is not going out to South Africa until the Monday, it should be a lot sooner than that so he can climitise”
“The training camp has been poor”
I didn’t think to tell Rhino until Lennox was sparked out, I then told Rhino who told me I was a **** for not telling him.
Another fight where I spoke to Clive Bernath, we were discussing klitschko v Sanders. Clive told me not to ignore him and that Corrie Sanders would definitely knock out Wladimir ..,. I told Clive to F off and stop being ridiculous.
Does the forum have stories they missed out on a fortune

Re: What fight shocked you most?
The fight that I had no doubts whasoever about the winner was Fury v Haye ….
David hardly trained, and was constantly late when he did train. He did not spar a lot and the vast majority of spars Deontay got the better of David.
The training camp was that sh*t I warned my wife I was putting load of money on Tyson to win.
I found it strange that on the Friday, 8 days before the fight Adam got Hrgovic to spar David and the cut happened the fight was called off … I thought just my luck. I was going to put £500 which I couldn’t afford on Tyson to win rounds 1 to 4.
Oh well

21 years ago tonight that was
I thought Corrie had a chance that night, id watched him absolutely pulverise Bobby Czyz and was amazed how fast and hard hitting he was - came out like a freight train

To the 12 year old me, Evander Holyfield looked older than time at the presser for the first Tyson fight. I assumed Tyson would walk through him. I was amazed when I found out he’d won.
Now he’s probably my all time favourite to watch

Holyfield was a tough ****er
Brillant boxer
Re: What fight shocked you most?
Haye vs Bellew 1, i placed my biggest ever bet on Haye to win by KO inside 3 rounds. An early KO was an absolute certainty in my mind

I remember watching Mike Weaver v John Tate with my dad - absolute shocker- Mike losing most of the 15 rounds before getting the knock out in the final minute.
Incredible day as American TV showed something like 5 different world title fights from around the country
Larry Holmes, Sugar Ray Leonard versus Dave Boy Green, and a few more too

The Hayemaker destroying Enzo Maccarenelli. I had Enzo down for a late stoppage.
What Pacquaio did to Hatton was scary, i've said it before - but I thought that Ricky was seriously hurt the way that he fell...
Alejandro Gonzalez Jr against Frampton - Carl getting rattled in those first few rounds...

Lewis - Rahman probably shocked me most watching live. Watched it with about 20 other people all squashed in a living room and still remember the collective amazement when that shot landed.

domestic level but Matthew Hall losing to Martin Concepcion in 2007 iirc, I thought Hall was undefeatable at the time
Re: What fight shocked you most?
I guess at 10 you were a bit young to go to the bookies, but I was telling everyone including my folks that Douglas was going to beat Tyson. Thought everyone was taking Douglas lightly and my 10 year old brain was like "Tyson isn't training, Bruno hurt Tyson and Douglas was the guy who was giving Tony Tucker all he could handle and Tucker gave Tyson a fairly tough fight". I was dead confident Douglas was going to win.
Another when I was devasted about and I was too small to stay up to watch it, but again it was the "I have a bad feeling about this one - well this time the vibe came from my dad was McGuigan vs Cruz". I was devasted when my dad knocked on my door at 6 am to tell me "he lost I am sorry, Stu".
Ruiz vs Joshua was geniune shock.

Honeyghan vs Breland, not that he lost but the manner of the loss - that was shocking.

Re: What fight shocked you most?
Honeyghan v Curry without a doubt, Curry seemed close to being the perfect boxer and destroyed Mcrory in a big unification fight. I knew Honeyghan was ver good but didn't really give him a chance.
Re: What fight shocked you most?
Was'nt so much shocked , but i won a shit load of money , Not bad for me because i'm not a gambler but i gambled heavy on the Douglas - Tyson fight , like most i did'nt know a thing about douglas , remember we watched it in a pub , that opened early in the morning , in them days with Tysons fights they would be packed to the rafters , , fight started i along with everyone thougt easy fight for Kike , after rnd 1 i announced to all and sundry Douglas was gonna win ,,, it started then everyone around me wanted to bet me and i took them all on , when douglass got knocked down , they all went wild , when he got up i stated he's gonna ko Tyson if h gets up , couple of bets increased , he got up , he won , i picked up a couple grand , BIG MONEY them days .
Best of all it made me look like a Guru
has i said to others when asked how i knew , Douglas was probably the first i had seen that stood his ground and threw with him , everyone else either moved in to hold , and got caught with upercuts , or moved away and got caught with long swings , Douglas did neither
Best of all it made me look like a Guru

Re: What fight shocked you most?
Hahaha, well the first 3 really did bamboozle me...
Barkely getting smashed to pieces, cut of both eyes, winging away, hitting nothing and getting crippled and folded up from body shots...... swinging, looking at the floor and boom! As Gil Clancy said, ' he hit lightening in a bottle'.
