A lot of praise for Wardley's guts on here, but how about Frazer. He dug very deep tonight.

He did but the way he kept on gesturing at the ref trying to get points taken off wardley for hitting with the back of the glove was poor form IMO.

Leading up to this fight we were discussing levels, and Clarke being levels above Wardley.
He was, boxing-wise, but at the end of the fight its fairly acceptable as a draw, cementing Clarke's level currently as British domestic second tier.

Might have been something to do with the ref taking a point of for a low blow he didn't even see. :maybe:

Possibly, but the fact remains that Wardley just wanted to fight, whereas Clarke was definitely seeking easier routes… at least twice he spat out his gumshield to buy himself time

true true. i think people mention wardley more because of how gassed he looked during the fight, made it seem like he dug deeper. fraze looked just as exhausted at the end but kept it more composed during.

Wardley complained about a shot on the belt, which got a point taken. I watched it back frame-by-frame and it wasn't low.

Epic battle that so it was, I had Wardley ahead 114-112 but no issues with the draw Wardley's nose break might be the worst I've seen, it bled like a leaking tap most of the fight, Clarke started off sharp took the first couple but Wardley is pure nails, opened Clarke up and dropped him with the right in the 5th, after that it was a war of attrition, Wardley's nose was clearly effecting his breathing and he looked a bit all over the place but he was still landing and having the last word in most exchanges, Clarke looked more polished but couldn't hurt Wardley and got backed up several times, the heart and will from both men was incredible, neither guy willing to back down, balls to the wall sh1t, one of the best heavyweight scraps in a long time, saved what ended up being a pretty poor card, gotta be an immediate rematch, Wardley needs to get his beek sorted proper and Clarke doesn't have time to let the rematch simmer

Just watched it again this morning. What a war.

The uppercuts are definitely Wardleys kryptonite.

Reminded me of the first Arreola v Stiverne fight when Bermaine landed a huge right on Chris`s nose in the 1st round, Arreola somehow made it the distance with a shocking broken nose.

Overall, Clarke was way more economical with his shots. Wardley was using up so much energy swinging. His age and conditioning got him through in the end. Can't grumble with a draw.

A rematch would be nice

Not sure if either can change their approach much. But another war is certain.

Assume Whittaker is looking for a new trainer now, unless he’s planning on keeping Clayton.

Wonder if Dom Ingle would be a good fit for his style.

Rematch later this year in Saudi for bigger $$$$$ is my prediction .
I think Turki boy will see this as the type of hugely entertaining fights he wants over there .
And thats where Frazer and Fabio are gonna get a decent payday rather than trying to fight in the Uk vs the likes of Dubois level and further down the pecking order .
TBH although I enjoy watching wardley part of it is the sheer jeopardy that he could get knocked spark out at any moment and probably does if he tries for a world belt .
Clark gets schooled by any of the top 6 and would probably struggle against Joyce as well .

I knew Clarke had a decent chin but had been out in rubbery legs and stopped before in the ams. Didn't know much about wardleys chin and it turns out to be very solid. He took tremendous punches. I thought Clarke won but when you get knocked down and have points deducted for low blows you can't argue. He got points off against Allen for low blows and comes out and gets another point off. Poor stuff.

You could see he was the smoother boxer but Wardley was just able to have explosive attacks that were effective. Im not really sure what wardleys game is. He wasn't that effective with anything other than his wild assaults. I gave Clarke 8 rounds to 4 and it turns out 6-4 when you take the points off.

I think you have to favour Clarke in a rematch. Wardleys got some facial damage that isn't going to heal and is always going to open up like that in fights.

I’m with you on that.

He’ll be more confident having done the 12 and knows he can take Wardley’s power (just). He can also work on avoiding those uppercuts and riding out the blitzes Wardley occasionally launches.

What did become clear was that neither are world beaters. Wardley doesn’t have the skills/technique and Frazer doesn’t have the engine or power.

totally agree. I had Wardley nicking it with the KD ans PTS deduction, but I will have watched it biased towards Wardley. Really good fight. Wardley needs some surgery there. He was funny afterwards when they asked him what he was thinking in there and he said he was thinking that his mum is not going to enjoy watching that. I think both come out of this with loads of credit. I thought Wardley would break Clarke, Clarke is super tough. He gave it his all, collapsed at the end and I can understand why.

He said in an interview there were no training issues but didn’t want to have to keep travelling to train with Sugar Hill.

Sugar was. He intimated he may be looking for another trainer in addition to Clayton.

Really impressed with his opponent and their corner.

disagree, wardley was an exhausted spaghetti man half the fight and had that bleeding early, yet clarke still couldnt put him in his place and kept getting stung whenever wardly would string anything together. that was already a great chance there that clarke couldnt capitalize on.

wardley paces himself a bit more intelligently, like not dumping it all when going for a kill, and he can carry most of the rounds. wardley also clearly able to hurt clarke easier than vise versa to turn the tide in rounds and bank kds

wardley had never completed more than 6 rounds in a fight prior to this, the experience could serve him well

Wardley is the greater physical talent of the two, that's for sure, and he has good instincts too.

Do you think Wardley would benefit from another technical trainer to bring him up to where he should be, mags? It's been said before that Davison doesn't bring fighters on from novice status and Wardley still looks a bit raw and awkward.
