Million Dollar Tournament (LHW)

Post by Crease »

The Million Dollar Tournament (MDT) is a seasonal event in the BoxRecSim, it only comes around once-a-year and it is a HOF recognized event.

The MDT was first devised by the now-transferred PIITB Promotions, where the inventor, a former Sim Brother of ours known as "DetroitHxC" created this seven-week boxing tournament in order to find out who had the stamina for such a marathon.

The MDT is an open tournament of 32 fighters in which ANYONE can enter - and if they do so, they will bring their titles along their MDT journey with them. During the MDT series, all Title rules and regulations are relaxed in order to help the tourney run it's natural course.

The structure of the tournament is - a group stage (8 groups of 4 fighters) with the top 2 progressing through to the second round (the last 16) and from there becomes a straight knockout competition, essentially a situation of:
you win & you're through..... you lose & you're out..... Any draws will be replayed to find a winner that same week.

All Managers should note that upon application of the tournament, they will then by legally required to see through this obligation, there can be no withdrawals, EVER!
Though if a Manager does enter, his fighters will not be able to fight each other. Also, World Champions would not be able to meet each until the Semi Finals. So, the stakes get ever higher as the tournament progresses.

MDT success is rated as a high honour in Simland, the winning Manager will be financially imbursed with $1 million simdollars. Along with that, the triumphant boxer will be remembered in the MDT Roll of Honour which can be found in the HOF.
And lastly, the victor will be awarded a guaranteed place in the end-of-season Super Six - the most highly exclusive club in all of Simland featuring the best of the best. You won't get this ticket anywhere else.

So, have you ever wondered what a Million dollars looks like?

One fighter this season will find out... And gain the ownership of the Million Dollar belt (which cost a £1 million / $1 million )

The MDT will begin in Week 17.

Like Geto, want to wait and see, given the dismal form of Tunney...the guy, this season, can lose to anyone, it appears. Not too worried about Johnson but will wait to see how it pans out......but probably, will go in.

Will let you know.

I almost feel like my guys oughta sit out to let someone else's fighters have a chance to win this thing....but I won't.

If anyone is going to achieve the greatness that the BrainTrust have so many times. They'll have to go through Ezzard Charles and Bob Fitzsimmons for the privilege!

Hmmm.........I have questions that will require answers.

1. Sounds like the 3 institutional belts will simply recognize this tourney and titles will be handed over accordingly....yes?

2. How will the IBO and the WBO recognize this?

Since the Linear Lonsdale is simply the lineal record and can not be ignored, it will follow natural law. So in order to participate fighters would need to agree to this in advance of participating. You can not opt out with the lineal belt while this is ongoing.

The lineal champ(s) can not step out once involved, regarding the linear tracking of things. This is a precious option that is given away to enter. Though the current lineal champion would certainly be able to choose to abstain, making that a moot point.

It's going to take some sorting......and will pool opponents be participating? If so....one could end up winning lol. IN which case Crease and I will of course accept the winnings on their behalf.

Tommy Loughran and Bob Foster toss their name into the hat and will enter the tournament.

As for the IBO, if the champion enters the tournament, the belt can change hands accordingly.

The WBO will happily sanction all fights within the tournament.
Rankings will be suspended until the end of the tournament unless the WBO champion is eliminated during the group stage. IE championship changes hands on the last week of group stages and champion does not have enough points to progress.

Below is the current state of play going into our final week before registry:

Unentered fighters:
BoxBuzz - Maxie Rosenbloom, Jimmy Bivins

As of this moment, until BoxBuzz has not thrown his lot into the MDT, such as his choice... We will find suitable non-managed replacements if need be - but obviously we would love to have the full house involved,
keep The Sim family intact and thriving...

If we have having 32 slots, we'll need 12 unmanaged fighters. I say, in no order:

1. Dariuz M.
2. Mauro Mina
3. Floyd Patterson Jr
4. David Telesco
5. Galindez
6. Jack Dillon
7. Antonio Tarver
8. Brahemer
9. Tommy Burns
10. Joe Knight
11. Zsolt Erdei
12. Tiger Jack Fox

Hmm if everyone was in agreement.......with Joe K as a current champion.....MAYBE there is as much to be won as to be lost if titles are on the line. I'm open minded......I wanted to avoid MDT as a unification event.......but losing and acquiring titles are not as much of a concern.

Is that understandable?

I just don't want the MDT to be the unification event. I want to avoid that. So the ONLY NON TITLE events could be when champ meets champ with the context of the MDT? Is that a scenario that could be an acceptable middle ground?

So if the WBC and IBF champion would agree to these terms perhaps we could go forward with some championships being won or lost.....just not unified. Sorry to have to sort this in real time like this. But the storm did take me my focus off of everything else in life. lol

I think this is more than acceptable but like in real life, I think the losing champs belt should be declared vacant and the top 2 ranked fighters coming off a win to fight for the vacant belt.

As for the storm Buzz, I hope all is OK in your neck of the woods. Be safe out there mate.

A good start....of course Joe Knight is a lock. I'll check to see if there are any top rated fighters that have thus far gone unutilized and would be inclined to introduce them at this point.

Not sure what the point is in having titles on the line, during the MDT, with the exception being when 2 belt holders fight, which would be called a non-title bout (to avoid unification).

If its to give one and all a shot at winning a title, then fine with me, as it opens it up. However it could add more workload and potential confusion with constantly keeping updates of belts changing hands, as well as MDT updates.

Could go out on a limb and declare all titles vacant in Week 16, just as we enter the MDT and then pick it up after the MDT conclusion.

As always, will go with whatever is decided, preferred and easiest for Mr Crease and Monsieur Buzz.

PS Mr Buzz, was this storm the Tornado that swept through several states? Excuse my ignorance, we never see Tornado's in this part on the world. Hope everything has settled down, with minimal damage and cost.

Just make it simple and don't have any major belts on the line. It was never an issue in past tournaments, but if champs can't unify, they might as well not defend either.

The IBO and I guess Linear (?) can both be up for grabs. Plus whatever the WBO finalizes.

Joe Knights title will be on the line.....as he has no advocates, and he is broke, and can not hire anyone to look after his best interests. And my team of lawyers is tied up in litigation with Kevo's Motley Crew. Or of course we would defend his honor.

So the WBO is P4P1' decision....the WBA is live....... Perhaps the IBF and the WBC champions should have some say as to whether they wish their titles to be on the line or not? I will be listening intently to their wishes. Unifications? I'm against it during the MDT.....but open to popular opinion. After all..... it is the group that pays the sanctioning fees that keep the commissioners driving our Lexus autos and sporting our Silk Suits.

This is rather simple.... And it will be fun to lampoon those who have no will to be honorable.

The Titles were always on the line in the MDT before, I don't like the fact that they won't be on the line this time.

If that's the way the wind is blowing, I'll go with it, but let me just say. This wind blows.
