Hi Boxrec,

I found 3 newspaper articles (attached as images) of two professional boxing matches that took place in both the Pyramid Hill Hall, in Pyramid Hill, Victoria, Australia and the Mikado Skating Rink in Kerang, Victoria, Australia.
The main boxer who fought in both bouts was T. Donohue from Pyramid Hill, Victoria, Australia. He defeated both J.Mansfield from Sandhurst (Now named Bendigo), Victoria, Australia and also Adam Shanley from Kerang, Victoria, Australia.
T. Donohue weighed 12st 6ib (174 lbs) and was 5' 8" tall (172 or 173 cm). Shanley weighed 12 st (168 lbs) and was 5' 10" tall (177 or 178 cm). There was no weight or height given for Mansfield. That weight is under the modern Light Heavyweight limit, but I'm not sure if it was under the Heavyweight or Light-Heavyweight limit in 1889. All the boxers got paid 20 pounds each for the fights.
There are a few inconsistincies in the articles, with the last article calling Donohue, "O'Donohue" and saying he was from New South Wales, while I can guarantee you that Pyramid Hill is in Victoria and NOT in New South Wales. I was talking to an old timer (in his 90's) in Pyramid Hill recently who said he remembered his grandfather telling him the story of the fight in Pyramid Hill. Kerang and Pyramid Hill are nearby towns to eachother in rural Victoria.
I also live in Pyramid Hill, too.

Monday 1st July 1889
Pyramid Hill Hall, Pyramid Hill, Victoria, Australia
T Donohue (Pyramid Hill) def J. Mansfield (Sandhurst) - W Pts 4
Referee: J Frost

Saturday 4th May 1889
Mikado Skating Rink, Kerang, Victoria, Australia
T Donohue (Pyramid Hill) def Adam Shanley (Kerang) - W KO 8
Referee: J Frost

Apparently Donohue and Shanley agreed to a rematch, which I am trying to find out the result of.

Article one is from "The Sportsman", Article two is from "The Kerang Times" and Article three is from " The Bendigo Advertiser". All found on Trove

Kind Regards,

Rohan
