It seems the dream of writing a book is over before its even started…

I like speaking to people who are brutally honest and I spoke to a ghost writer today who I admire greatly and he says people would not be interested.

My story would have included :

Mum & dad barnodos kids
Dad died on fathers day 1973
Mum diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic
Brutally bullied at a military boarding school

My 24 years in the Army which included serving with the elite pathfinders platoon

My 20+ years in boxing which included working with Lennox Lewis, Frank Maloney, Ricky Hatton & David Haye having tales which would make your hair curl.

On leaving the army working as a Debt Collector in some of the most deprived areas of the North East

Working as a care officer for some of the most disadvantaged looked after children in the country

Having to keep quiet some high profile sportsmen were drug cheats.

Being diagnosed and coping with Parkinson’s

It seems a publicist would not be interested.

Oh well it seems i am a boring ****

I asked for honesty and got it straight between the eyes.
Simply listing what you've done won't get much attention..

Introduce some jeopardy into your pitch to prospective writers. Although working in TV a good friend once told me that nothing gets to air without jeopardy these days. Wheeler Dealers - can we find the spare part, have we bitten off more than we can chew, how much will we get for it. Salvage Hunters, before every ad break 'will the seller accept the offer?

It looks like most of the jobs you've done there was potential for jeopardy around every corner?

PS: A book selling on Amazon will realise a profit of around 60p after printing and them taking their cut!

Do think really theres probabaly a dozen or more peolpe on this site who have led adventurous lifes , with good storys to tell , christ even my missis keeps saying to me You should write a book .

But i think it was hit on the head earlier when someone said , people are only interested in celebrities , after all why else buy them , who would buy a football thugs books , there are some idiots who will , in fact i've got a brother in law who loves them buys everyone he can , then sits wanking over the tales they tell of how hard they are and how they went to west ham and fought 60 west ham fans , all armed with hammers and knives , all on there own .

But by and large sensible people don't , so whats left , sounds like it will be a very difficult sell and thats coming from people here who are experienced in this sort of thing , But does that mean you should'nt do it Spud .

HELL NO ,,,, get it done self write , ghost write , best seller , non seller , does'nt matter its gonna give you pleasure and a means to tell your life story to your kids and grandkids and future great grandkids , if my great grandad had a book out , i would love to read it and i never knew him

The power of boxrec ..

Had a friendly text from a lawyer of a boxing personality.

My reaction is I will not be silenced.

LOL.

Silly me.

I get it now.

There isn't gonna be a book.

There never was gonna be a book.

It's just another "Look at me. " thread.
That was my first thought on seeing this thread

A lot of the guys engaging with Spud I have a lot of time for and really enjoy reading their forum contributions so I began to doubt my original opinion

But on balance I agree with you
There are a lot of good guys in this forum. Blokes who have followed boxing for years and even a few lads like coco who have lived the life of a professional boxer. Like you, I have a lot of time for their views and their insight. Spud? He's an oddball. He HAS been involved in professional boxing. To what degree? That's debatable. To me, he was a "gofer". Someone needed to be picked up from the airport? "Get Spud to drive out there and pick him up." Someone often falls asleep in the afternoon and is late for sparring sessions?" Get Spud to give them a knock and make sure they are there." Critical jobs? Absolutely, but anyone with half a brain can do them "Spud has resigned." "Never mind, get the apprentice gofer, Little Spud, to do it.".

Is there the guts of a book in that? Hmmmm, I doubt it. Are there some great threads to pursue in here? For sure. Though unless Spud is portrayed as the hero, it's unlikely he will want to go down that path.

Best of luck to Spud if he wishes to write his life story. He is in the reflection stage of life with age and his unfortunate health position so who can blame him.

Best advise would be to turn down the grandiosity a good few clicks.

There's probably value in a 'what the butler saw' type book on what goes on in boxing from the viewpoint of a trusted insider.

I'm not so fussed about the hard background stuff as while undoubtedly important to Spud, no one else really gives a monkeys about anyone's problems as they have enough of their own.

The exception are the pure pity p0rn books written about abusive childhoods etc that you can buy in supermarkets for a fiver but this book seems to be strongest on the sporting angle

If it could capture that real fly on the wall element I would be interestedin reading it.

 'The life and times of boxing's bag carrier'. I think you have nailed this.

Sadly, for Spud, he's more known for his ego fuelled ramblings on the internet than anything he's done in boxing.

I have little interest in reading his posts on here, let alone a book full of it, but that's ok as we all know a book will never been written, let alone published.

To all lads with good intentions on here, use your time productively, all it's doing is feeding the ego and giving him the attention he craves.

I spent a long time off these forums cos I got sick of seeing his nonsense. Sadly he's still at it. He'll likely respond by saying he doesn't know who I am, and that's fine, but someone else needed to say it too.

Ty for the continued advice.

I note there are a minority who think its ok to insult and you insinuate this thread is a waste of time, yet you consider its worthy to comment… please excuse my confusion.

Regardless of the critics and there are still people who poor scorn on my achievements in life, keep your comments coming, I remember 20 years ago you tried to bully me off the forums with your pathetic, weak and disgusting insults … whilst you were busy w*nking behind your computer screens thinking of your next insult, I was busy travelling the world working in the sport I love.

Keep the insults coming.,

I freely confess that after my previous account was banned (I forget why) I had a prolonged break from here and I only signed up this week with the specific intention of joing this thread and annoying Bulb Head.

And given his vitriolic response straight after I posted the book cover, I seem to have achieved my objective :TU:

Do you have any objections having your regular username being named on here .

Why the urgent need to post under yet another username.. are you a coward.

The IP address you recently posted under is quite revealing

'Coward' what/who do I have to be fearful of exactly?

You don't have my IP address Bulb, and even if you do what would/could you do with it?

But here you go mate, do your worst.

In the highly unlikely event this book is ever published (written even) do you think we will get to read about the time Paul King went for Bulb Head compelling him to flee in terror?

You have let yourself down badly this evening. In your quest to gain favour and a cheap laugh from other forum members you are preppared
To celebrate someone who os a convicted rapist. Yet another slip up on your part.

You say you are not a coward, why dont you tell the forum your name and your username.

I feel quite sorry for you.

Be humble and admit your are wrong in cheerleading a convicted rapist

Evoking the incident with King is 'cheerleading' him?

No

You've already claimed I'm 'normally a good poster' so surely you're aware of my identity?

The only thing 'wrong' here is this thread and the narcissistic attention seeking mentality behind it.

Brilliant!

More grandstanding by poor old Spud who also posted under many aliases over the years.

"Cockney gym rat" was my favourite Spud alias after he was banned for the umpteenth time.

First post he made, someone said "That you Spud?"
