OK..heres my take

Ive read all of the replies, some funny, some informative, some cruel, some thoughtful etc etc. But what ive taken from it is...

By all means do a book, but decide whats its going to be about. If its about the boxing journey then focus on that, that is the part that will appeal to the masses. No need for a life story as Joe public wont be interested in that, your back story can go inside the back cover of the book on a single page, describing who the author is and where he has come from.

Focus on the boxing. The characters, the underworld, the chatter, the fixing, the money, the drugs, the elation, the depression, the friends, the enemies, the clean and the dirty. The women, the shagging, the threats and the praise. Lump it all in there with the backing of a good lawyer.

There are enough english speaking boxing followers worldwide to make the book a success, providing its accurate, informative, insightful and full of scandal that is truthful. Heresays and rumours will just get you into legal trouble.

Thats my take on it mate. You have had a credible life, but an incredible boxing journey. So use the incredible journey in boxing as the route for the print. Your life, and we have all had one, wont turn the heads of Joe public. Boxing laid bare, warts and all, will turn heads and entice a read or a hard copy purchase.

Spud, you have a black belt in online forum martial arts from one of the hardest 'dojos' out there! Not even I have that :verysad: you can handle yourself in a 'ruck' actually the back and forth reminded me of the Dogghouse days and that was part of the scenery there, Giancarlo is a great poster and I think he makes great contributions to this forum as does numbers (don't know who he is but you rate him as a 'good poster' so I am sure he is) but of course these kinds of back and forth don't last long, the thread and the exchanges will be down onto the fifth page this time next week. You know not to let this kind of thing get to you. :TU:

You have an idea for a book, it's a noble idea, you do have a story, you don't need a ghost writer, you can write this though you might need physical help because you have Parkinsons but you're bright enough and I think what you're going to write would make a compelling read but of course, we all have different opinions of what will make a compelling read so with that - go with what YOU think in what will be will make a compelling read, get down all the things that are important to you because you won't be writing this twice. :TU:

Make sure you get everything down the first time so there's no regrets.

Do you honestly think he's capable of that Rhino?

He's such an egotist I can see him quickly reducing other people in any anecdote to mere supporting characters and making the whole story about himself.

I have visions of Alan Partridge and his book where famous names were mere backdrop and every story ended with 'needless to say I had the last laugh'

So you manage to overcome all the travails listed in you OP but you're crying because of a few barbs on an online forum

Are you going to send 'Goodbye I'm leaving the forum' messages to everyone like you did the last time I mocked you?

I’ll keep my post on the last two days to a minimum. But two sayings which applies to both sides 1) Glass houses and stones 2) Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Talk of “bullying” just reminds me of twenty years ago and the like. In the name of “banter” I and several others got singled out via video (so not on the forum) as “nerdy little anoroacks” by the maloneys. Now as a boxing fan and someone in my early twenty’s … do you think that didn’t hurt and upset? My name got mentioned by a video by two figures of the sport I love, but not in a positive sense. We know where those phrases stemmed from.

It cannot be labelled “banter” when it’s being dished out and bullying when it’s being taken and that’s all I’ll say about that.

But let me reiterate the other important saying also “two wrongs”

I didn't know about the video and that must have been rough to watch. No excuses from anyone doing that and I never understood the 'anorak' jibe, we're all 'anoraks' in the sense of our depth of interest and I always thought it was silly to label the Boxrec British forum as such - it was by far the most knowledgeable forum on the net at the time. There were some right online zoos around that time - Eastside had one populated full of racist douchebags of every nationality, goes without saying Boxrec wiped the floor with them all.

Just the other day, the poster 'lightsoot' used the term 'anoraks' to describe boxrec back in the day, but guess what? Here he is! on the 'anoraks' forum, how strange? :-?

Years of this.
Spud. Lots of us do give a sh!t.
I wrote earlier. Give it a go.

However, it’s getting old now.
Don’t bite at the naysayers. Coz that’s why you are a bit of a caricature.
Write your book Spud. Don’t do this on a forum.

Procrastination is a worthless habit, just write the book, you don't need permission from us.

If you don't write it, you will be giving ammunition to anyone who feels you are attention seeking.

Think Coco has got it right here , if you feel the need to do it just do it , if you think your story is worth other people buying it just do it , if its for your and your famillys benefit just do it , but by starting threads about it and not doing it you set yourself up ,

We all have storys to tell , i'll be brutally honest would i buy your book , probably not , got my own boxing storys to tell , got my own medical hardships to tell , and would probably not be any more interested in yours than i would football thugs , or i knew a gangster writers . . But i'm sure theres others who would .

And the main ones interested would be your familly and you would give them a copy anyway ,, So if you feel the need JUST DO IT , do it for them let the future generations get to know there uncle spud , arguing on here about it only devalues it and makes you out to be a bighead who thinks he has a story , when we all have one .

PS ,, my daughter in laws grandmother , wrote a book , i did'nt buy a copy , but read it , the book was only short and about her and her familly , but i loved it because , it was about my daughter in laws familly , her dad and grandad , i thought it was brilliant , and your familly will probably feel the same

lovely post Jack. Your story would be fantastic, not many world athletics competitors who went into boxing, look forward to reading the book when published mate.
