Open Gender Boxing, Wrestling, MMA, etc., Leagues

Post by ironbeard »

I think that it would be interesting. Maybe make them open weight class as well. Or, maybe that would be an exclusive (all inclusive) division.

The matchmaking alone would be fascinating.

I think the idea of it being a short term warning of the dangers could be interesting. The men who go in there wanting to fight women should be on a list afterwards though. The women will learn their lesson that there's a gulf in athletic ability. pretty quickly. It does provide an opportunity for Trans athletes though so there's probably something there, but again, Trans athletes against men and women could be problematic though.

I largely agree.

What it would do is give a small % of women a choice that they really do not have now. It would also legitimize gender exclusivity more clearly.

Matchmaking and match sanctioning would be key.

Combat sports would admittedly be problematic. However, I do think that there are women who would venture into it, and it beats allowing men who identify as women competing in gender exclusive divisions.

My original thought (which I posted in the Misc. Sports thread on CS) was for open gender team sports, similar to what has traditionally been called co-ed leagues. Limited to no more than 50% of male and females. Unlimited trans members. However, trans count as one male or female on a team if they identify that way. :maybe:

This transgender (male to female) boxer was knocked out in 21 seconds on the weekend. Record is now 3-1. There's your open division.

There are tons of examples of 3-1 boxers, open gender, male exclusive, female exclusive. Not sure what point you are trying to make.

That is the only example I know of of a trans professional boxer. Unless you know more?

If the division is created and marketed they will come.

At least 43 boxers have died from injuries sustained in the sport since 2000.

What’s new?

Plenty of men like to knock women about. This is a great way to legitimise it. Floyd Mayweather would be straight out of retirement.

What do you have against women and transexuals having the opportunity to KTFO men professionally?

Nobody would be forced to enter the open gender league.

Didn't say I was against it. Sounds like a guilty conscience being triggered.

Shows you how small the sport really is. There are around 24,000 lightning fatalities every year.

Doesn't make the death of boxers in the ring or after fights less tragic but it's a big reality check: Boxing is a really, really small bubble.

To the topic: Why are there separated competitions for men and women in the first place? I think the answer to that is enough. Not many are interested in seeing number 314 and 315 in the world fight each other but number one and two female boxers suddenly becomes very marketable.

I completely agree.

Only reason I bring it up is because of the trans competing in female sports issue. Open gender leagues would mitigate that.
