I remember when the PBC cards were at their peak thinking this is an improvement, then hearing some of the purses and then thinking it couldn't last as there's no way they could be profitably paying, say, Leo Santa Cruz 800-900 grand to defend against a muppet. Likewise I thought similar about the Setanta days over here.

The Saudi money is a different kettle of fish tho. Saudi Arabia has so much money because of their oil that they pretty much can't spend it quickly enough. I've always thought boxers deserve the big purses when they eventually come around so I am glad this Saudi minister is putting the money into boxing. What won't be fair is there will be some really talented guys who don't get onto the Saudi cards and maybe some (with respect to them) less talented/deserving guys who do. But life aint fair sometimes and the World aint perfect and never will be.

I'll happily tune in and pay the PPV price assuming I'm not working.

I love what this Turki dude is doing at the minute.

I also love a pound note and have often thought what I would do if a Saudi Prince offered me £1 million to unload a turd (has to be dry) on my chest. Apparently this is all the rage over there now, with tik tokkers and youtubers getting dumped on for coin.

I'd do it. I'd take that million make no mistake.

However, there is no way on God's earth I would call some geezer in a hat like that "his excellency". Not a chance. I'd rather take the chocolate on chest any day of the week.

Frank, Eddie and every other promoter all queining up for their handouts and calling the bloke "his excellency"

Did he give himself that name. I bet he loves it. Seeing the privileged infidels squirming like worms for a few of their silver coins.

Why is he even referred to as his excellency? He doesn't even have a proper title from royal family does he? Just a rich guy with a political job over there right? Let's call him by his name, Turki Al-Sheikh.

He’s referred to as ‘his excellency’ as that’s what they call members of the extended royal family/senior people who work with the royal family.

It’s like a cross between U.K. politicians being ministers or ‘the right honourable’ and extended members of the royal family ‘your highness’.

It’s a bit weird but not something he made up.

I’d rather say it that get shit on and he’s making great fights and has big time enthusiasm for the sport.

I'm not sure he actually insists on being referred to as his excellency as I'm pretty sure Anthony Joshua repeatedly referred to him by his first name in one press conference.

I get that but in the UK, the honourable reference is used only in parliament. I also personally wouldn't be calling anyone "your highness" over here either, even though I know that's what bootlickers call them. It would be even less expected from people from a different country. I'd be surprised if he could show his link to MBS on a family tree so him getting the title for his job is weird given how it is worded.

I don't think you would get away with calling King Charles the III 'cazza/charlie/chuck' or anything like that without some large gentleman with a sword and a silly hat severely rebuking you.

I think the vast majority of people would call someone whatever they wanted if they were paying them well enough for it.

I also remember when in the early days of Sky Sports and they had some show on there called 'ask the boss' (or something like that) where the guest of the day was Sir John Hall (Newcastle United chairman) and when members of the audience would call him John - he would correct them and say 'it's Sir John' and he insisted on it more than once before everyone got with the programme  it's a great mark of laid back decency when they don't insist on it but I think more of these types would get shirty if the lower orders become a bit too familiar and not 'know their place' by not addressing them properly.

Well i've give it some thought , and got to thinking , who would i call, your excellency , Sir Abi Dabi doo doo , , your majesty or whatever other name they prefered , and the answer is no one they would just be called , gday mate , but then again i don't mix with them ,, If however they chose to mix with me say in the form of a multi million dollar contract or payday followed by more if they liked me , , in them circumstances , besides calling them whatever they preferred , i think i'd kiss there ass has well if needed.

Regards my moral compass , i'm not sure and too be honest don't really know what they do and don't do thats so bad , and whats more i don't care i simply don't put my nose in others buisness , but one thing i do know , when i look at the western world and i see the way its turning , i also listen to people complain about lack of respect , ect and all the other shite , , i hear of people advocating children should be able to change sex and all the other crap , Then i think who the fook are we to judge them , does'nt happen there does it . We go to far one way , perhaps they go to far the other way , , but who's to say where the middle is , one saying keeps springing to mind , give an inch they'll take a mile .

But in the meantime , if it pleases your excellency to be called your excellency , and the reward is these great shows , , alls i will say is keep up the good work YOUR EXCELLENCY ,

and of Peter no nob , with the six o clock shadow , bad fitting dress and hairy legs gets offended , F#$% K HIM

That's a good point, well made! :TU: It's easy for us to say 'I would never call him his excellency' etc because we don't move in those circles so there's no need to call anyone such a moniker but if millions of pounds and a continued line of credit/business etc is there for the taking then you will call them what they like. If his excellency wanted to be called 'treaclebum' instead and all that money was on the line then I don't think anyone would have a problem with that at all.

I don't think all these fighters and promoters would keep calling him 'his excellency' if he defaulted on the money - they would revert to the massive lack of respect they probably have for him out of earshot - their respect and deference is bought and paid for - a lot of such things in life are bought and paid for.

Good if you are a big name boxer right now.

But it’s going to destruct from grass roots and domestic.

Also when the Saudis get bored of it, and they will, there’s going to be all these cashed up guys expecting to fight for market value again and just choosing to be inactive.

Mabey the excelent one will keep payjng for his very favourites to keep fighting, but even though he has enough money to keep boxing going for ever I doubt he does.

This might not be bad for boxing. It Might be boxings last stand for casual popularity over ufc. But it dosent feel sustainable.
