Boxrec p4p rankings especially suspicious right now

Post by Lackeos »

A lot of little guys in the p4p rankings right now, and 5 Japanese fighters currently in the top 15; and 10 in the top 40. Some of the more noteworthy positions are...
#3 Junto Nakatani
#6 Kenshiro Teraji
#8 Jesse Rodriguez
#9 Emanuel Navarrete
#10 Subriel Matias
#12 Takuma Inoue
#123 Oleksandr Usyk
#155 Anthony Joshua
#205 Callum Smith
#335 Tyson Fury

I don't know how it's possible to mess up the formula bad enough that you have Junto Nakatani at #3 p4p at Oleksandr Usyk 120 ranks below him

It seems the lighter weightclasses have been given a bump by the new algorithm. There seem to be a load of 5 star fighters in the lower weightclasses but not many in the heavier ones. When the points were visible, the higher weightclasses used to pick up a lot more points due to fighters coming up in weight more often than going down in weight. The current algorithm is not very good at all.

The algorithm is dead… suposidly they just changed the recency or result bias but as a result heavyweight died.

The lighter weights went Crazy. Hence why Japan is killing it…

I understand “computer rankings” but when the system is clearly fuked they need to recognise and make adjustments , even if it’s like moving an entire divisions ranks up. Nothing specific.

This seems like an overcorrection. In truth it seemed like the previous system overrated wins at heavyweight and the higher weights and the lighter weight fighters were underrated. Now the opposite maybe. Monster should have been ranked #1 a long time ago but his wins were discounted compared with what heavier weight fighters did, IMO

You can see and discuss BoxRec p4p ratings with a reduced factor in favour of the lower weight divisions here:
