Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne has announced his retirement from professional boxing.
The former secondary WBA heavyweight titlist suffered a defeat to Hemi Ahio on the undercard of the Lomachenko v Kambosos card, leaving his final record at 31-6 (27 KO).
Browne, known for his power and tenacity, leaves behind a legacy of remarkable achievements and memorable moments.
Reflecting on his decision, Lucas Browne expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his career, stating, “I am incredibly proud of what I’ve accomplished in the ring, and I am deeply thankful to all the fans who have supported me along the way. I hope you were entertained, win lose or draw.
It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited to embark on the next chapter of my life with my family and continue to contribute to the sport through my gym.”
Browne’s manager, Matt Clark, also weighed in on the announcement, highlighting Browne’s remarkable journey from turning pro in his 30s without any amateur background to becoming a world champion.
Clark stated, “Lucas Browne’s accomplishments in the ring are nothing short of extraordinary. He will go down as one of the greatest Australian Heavyweights ever, and his victory over Ruslan Chagaev stands as one of the most significant moments in Australian boxing history.
But perhaps one of Lucas’ greatest traits is that he always has time for the fans of the sport. He never turns anyone back for a photo or an autograph. The sport is richer for having him in it”.
Throughout his career, Browne’s indomitable spirit and determination captured the hearts of fans worldwide. This was highlighted by his “Rocky-like” comeback against Chagaev in 2016.
He was also the only Australian Heavyweight to capture the Commonwealth title in over 100 years.

About time
Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Should've retired a while ago, after his loss to Allen. He took a huge KO against Whyte as well before that but he struggled with Sokolowski which was a sign.
He did give us one of the most weirdly entertaining fights against Miller last year though. Seems like a nice enough guy if you take out his failed drug test.

Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Good luck to him. He always came to fight. Frequent visitor to the UK and all.
Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Solid, respectable career that probably went a few fights past his "sell by" date.
His best work in the ring:
Ruslan Chagaev tko 10(comes from behind to win a 2ndary world title)
Eric Martel Bohoeli tko 5(wins the Commonwealth title)
Richard Towers tko 5(goes on the road, stops an unbeaten fight to get his shot at the above title)
Andrii Rudenko UD 12( beats another undefeated fighter to get in line for a world title shot)
Junior Fa tko 1
Pretty good for a late pro start with no amateur background.

Probably will be viewed as an average fighter in the grand scheme of things, but a genuinely decent fella who was very articulate and always had time for his fans.
Not a perfect fighter or person I’m sure, but way better than many in this game as plenty of bigger names have had suspect or adverse findings.
All the best to him.

I always liked Lucas and, as a late-starter he had a really good career. He won a few titles and hopefully earned well, I know he's got his gym business going so hopefully that will be successful. He beat a much-diminished James Toney but still a great name to have on your resumé. I interviewed him for some website just before he won the Commonwealth title - he came across as a really nice chap - and it was incredible that he was the first Australian to win the belt in over 100 years.

Lucas was a very big overachiever.
Started late and had limited skills.
He accomplished way more than most and has deserved our respect.
I wish him well in retirement

He fought again and he lost for a 4th consecutive time.
Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
He's doing a couple of gloved bouts here and there mixed with the BKB fighting in places he's never visited according to his instagram. I don't think he expects to win in gloved boxing anymore, his focus is on BKB where he could well pick up a title of some sort.

Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
It’s good that he has finally given it away.
With that punching power he was always a bit of a threat, but the last few years he has just been getting beaten up.
I don’t think anyone wants to see him get seriously injured in there

Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Lucas Browne just lost a fight in Germany on the weekend, he was beaten by a undefeated ARMENIAN fighter who was 6 - 0 with 1 ko, BROWNE was stopped in the 6th round of the 6 round fight, pretty worrying signs that he gets stopped by a guy who is not even a noted puncher, but lets be honest here BROWNE has a glass chin and has no punch resistance or very little left for quite a while now, My opinion is he should stop fighting before he gets seriously injured.

Browne has signed to fight for the BKB world title in Miami next month
Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Lucas Browne fights Gustavo Trujillo for the BKB world title in Miami on Saturday. Can he manage to win a world title ungloved to go with his gloved one?

Re: Lucas Browne Announces Retirement
Big Daddy has been on the downhill slope for the last 4 and half years, since he was filmed in the dressing room, scoffing down a large sausage roll before entering the ring.
Browne then was knocked out in less than 2 minutes by a part time fighter / rugby league player, Paul Gallen.
