Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
Usyk won, but there was enough positives to show Fury is capable of winning a rematch. They’ve both now got the ultimate data to go off. Now gonna work each other out & go again. I’d love a trilogy.

Can for sure, will is another question

Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
In theory yes - but I think Usyk has too many levels for him. He was bossing things in rounds 5-6. but Usyk made adjustments, bit down on his gumshield and got on with it.
I think Fury's problem, is he finds it almost impossible to focus for every minute of every round, whereas Usyk has laser like focus for every second of every round.
I think Usyk can also improve on his performance, by gettng off to an even faster start, backing Fury up, and potentially hurting him earlier in the fight.

I think he can, Usyk looked uncomfortable when Fury was putting it on him, it would've been a different fight had he pressed from the first bell instead of showboating and standing off.

Of course he can’t doesn’t mean he will
Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
I think Fury got himself into a false situation. He thought he was winning those early 2 but Usyk was just simply out pointing him.Controversial wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 07:39 I think he can, Usyk looked uncomfortable when Fury was putting it on him, it would've been a different fight had he pressed from the first bell instead of showboating and standing off.
Look, it’s going to be interesting if they both turn up fit for a rematch. It’s what we want right?

That would require Fury to work at a pace he simply isn't capable of.Controversial wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 07:39 I think he can, Usyk looked uncomfortable when Fury was putting it on him, it would've been a different fight had he pressed from the first bell instead of showboating and standing off.
Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
Absolutely Fury can win the rematch if he can get his tactics right. Its 60/40 in favour of Usyk IMO.
I think Fury will come in heavier for the rematch.
I was very intreagued to see who would hold the center of the ring, would Fury want to back him up, or, fight of the backfoot. Watching i thought Fury wanted to take centre ring, i now believe that was his gameplan, but he could not hokd that spot, Usyk was relentless and bossed him in that area and was the one taking center ring and pressing the fight. I believe Usyk was able to implenent his fight plan whereas Fury was not able to do so.

Rematch in October ? Fury will probably go on a bender now,put 3 stone on,he would have to first lose that weight, then actually train for the fight,no chancepolecateddy wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 07:40 Probably will just get really fat now over next 6 months so no.

He can give it a good go but he's not fit enough to keep pace with Usyk in the later rounds and doesn't seem powerful enough to put a really big dent in him.

It's alright saying Fury only needs to keep the pressure on to win, but we hear this time and time again when people fight Usyk.
Usyk is so good at maintaining his own pressure usually through his quality footwork that fighters going against it can't cope with it for the full 12.

Possible, but be more inclined to think Usyk would be the more disciplined and focused fighter to ensure he gives himself the chance to match or better performance.
Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
I would prefer AJ v Fury in the Fall and Usyk v Parker or Hrgovic.
Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
thing is if they rematch then Usyk is the undisputed world champion and fury the challenger - judges will not be generous .
if anything the challenger is expected to " take " the belts from the champ .
IMHO he cant get any better or fitter - he was gassed after 7/8 which is when Usyk always takes things up a few levels .
And very lucky not to get counted out - another ref could have ended the fight in the 9th by tko .

Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
Had Usyk winning 116-111 but can see 114-113 for him, Fury has more than a chance in the rematch, he showed plenty in there, his punching was sharp, the jab from the hip, body shots, right uppercut, all gave Usyk bother, Fury's problem apart from that torrid 9th round was his workrate and general tactics, wasn't busy when it was time to be busy
Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
The fight was reasonably close so obviously he can win a rematch, but I think the odds will against him.
I would have given him much more of a chance had round 9 not happened, now they both know. Also his fitness level wasn't good enough and he was probably more fit than he has been in years. Can he improve on his fitness level? I doubt it, if anything he'll probably come in heavier the next time.

Can he work on power and fitness and come out more aggressively next time?hhaehre wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 12:33 The fight was reasonably close so obviously he can win a rematch, but I think the odds will against him.

My guess is that he'll come out more aggressively, but that he'll be less fit. Will it work? Probably not, Usyk isn't Wilder.wrighty wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 12:34Can he work on power and fitness and come out more aggressively next time?hhaehre wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 12:33 The fight was reasonably close so obviously he can win a rematch, but I think the odds will against him.

At this point in his career those are two things he can't improve upon.
Fury's skills are well honed. All it comes down to now is Fury's ring IQ and tactics, being able to deliver on a solid gameplan, and being able to make adjustments when it's not going his way. I have no doubt Fury can win the rematch if he implements the right tactics, but when you have someone like Usyk breathing down your neck for 12 hard rounds, trying to stick to a gameplan is a monumental task.
Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
He looks like an opponent that would exhaust you, constantly moving. Usyk is so good defensively tooALI wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 13:11Power, fitness?wrighty wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 12:34Can he work on power and fitness and come out more aggressively next time?hhaehre wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 12:33 The fight was reasonably close so obviously he can win a rematch, but I think the odds will against him.

Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
depends how Fury responds to a defeat.
Maybe it will inspire something extra from him.
Or maybe this fight was him going out on his shield, showing greatness in defeat, a monumental last stand, and the next fight will be more emphatic against him.
The thing with Usyk, I didn't think he had the style or the build to be an achiever at the very top level at heavyweight. southpaw pecking and moving. But the man will not allow any barrier to get in the way of his goal. and uses/develops what he has (southpaw speed and movement, timing unexpected punches, fanatical conditioning) to use as assets. I already felt he was the best boxer of his generation, based on beating top cruisers and heavies in their backyards.
I just hope Fury can contribute to another great fight, be part of another memorable rivalry and continue to erase memories of that dreadful showing in which he gave Ngannu 15 minutes of boxing fame.
I'm really happy with Fury's career, as I thought he was going to lose to Wlad and laugh his way to the bank. So to see him befuddle Wlad, and make a (not quite) Foremanesque comeback in a classic trilogy vs the sport's biggest puncher, Wilder (whom I expected to beat Fury twice), show high level big man skills vs his mandatory Whyte, and lose an epic to my choice of the best boxer of this era - the man showed me something. As I was a doubter early on, I don't take for granted what he actually did. wonderful career considering his struggles with John McDermott for the English title.

Re: Fury ‘can’ beat Usyk in rematch…Yes or No
Fury world logic will probably that money talks, and he can just get Usyk back in 12 months when he's even older. I bet Fury hardly trains in the next 6 months, as that seems to be his MO.
