Michael Buffer
Re: Michael Buffer
Combination of over exposure and age has dulled Buffer's impact.
When Buffer was introducing you used to know it was a huge fight.
Problem now is they wheel him out to pretend it's a big fight.

Re: Michael Buffer
From what I was told, the reason Mike got the gigs, was that he had provided the ring for a lot of the shows, and did it as a package, it certainly wasnnt based on aptitude, he was as suited to in ring announcement, as a thalidomide victim is to punch and judy shows.stujones wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 13:03He is Mr Boxing though - his son has also done a fair few, Simon..... not exactly Mr Charisma.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 13:01 Who remembers Mike goodall? He was terrible. It was like someone in a nursing home who used to be a ring announcer.

You make a great point tbh pal, in the Klit vs Fury bout he didn't even announce #AndTheNew when Tyson got the decision which annoyed me for a whole month.Stuarty wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 09:56Same here mate. It's a thing that needs addressed without a doubt.. The announcer cheese is also a stain on our sport and needs fixed! I remember years ago when Burns boxed Mitchell he slabbered some shite about 'Rob Roy Mcgregor' and i nearly choked on ma beer! Utter garbage!kbackup408 wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 09:43 He doesn't really bother me, more cheesed off at the judging if I am honest![]()
I might be in the minority but I think we need to have 5 judges (3 live and two at home) who score the fight - the judges with skewed scorecards are discounted - thoughts?

Domestically Craig Stephen is way and by far the best IMO, on the world scene I don't mind Diamante, he knows his stuff

Re: Michael Buffer
That's deffo worth looking in to mate aye. Maybe picking the judges on the day of the fight as well but i'm not sure how that'll work logistically... You have the home promoter wining and dining the judges and putting them up in top class hotels and fukk knows what else.....kbackup408 wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 14:04You make a great point tbh pal, in the Klit vs Fury bout he didn't even announce #AndTheNew when Tyson got the decision which annoyed me for a whole month.Stuarty wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 09:56

Re: Michael Buffer
There was a time where if you were a fighter one of the things you would dream about was having him announce your fight....but these days he annouces every fight going over here. Since Hearn has had him on the payrol he has devalued his services a bit. Perhaps its because we are spoiled and hear him a lot more than we used to? But I hear what the poster is saying.
Re: Michael Buffer
Yeah, he was big in the 90s. Let’s get ready to rumble! Me and my mates loved it. Then the novelty wore off, and he’s still at it. It actually detracts from the show for me now, so it’s like he‘s gone from one extreme to the other.
Re: Michael Buffer
Hasn’t got enough breath to call it properly now. It was good in the 90s as you say, like Head bags, grolsch tabs on your shoes and perms. You’d get laughed at today and so should Buffer.

Yes, it's Ludicrous that the promoter pays for and organises such things, sets up a conflict of interest.Stuarty wrote: ↑19 Nov 2019, 03:26That's deffo worth looking in to mate aye. Yeah whatever governing body is in charge of the fight wether it be domestic or one of the many world bodies should surely be sorting out travel and accommodation for the officials etc... It's them they are effectively working for at the end of the day not the frickin promoter. It's pretty crazy and should be looked at. the governing bodies get enough sanctioning fees to pay their way..jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑23 Nov 2019, 05:04Yes, it's Ludicrous that the promoter pays for and organises such things, sets up a conflict of interest.Stuarty wrote: ↑19 Nov 2019, 03:26

Craig Stephen is good mate aye. Diamante is decent. Talks pish sometimes on some of they YouTube channels but does seem to genuinely love the game. Can't remember what fight it was but in the build up he done a wee tour of MSG and it was pretty good.handsofstone wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 16:39 Domestically Craig Stephen is way and by far the best IMO, on the world scene I don't mind Diamante, he knows his stuff

Re: Michael Buffer
I suppose the problem with that would be when it's recharged, the promoter could end up having to pay more than they're willing to if the association has gone overboard in what they book.Stuarty wrote: ↑23 Nov 2019, 05:44Yeah whatever governing body is in charge of the fight wether it be domestic or one of the many world bodies should surely be sorting out travel and accommodation for the officials etc... Re: Michael Buffer
He really need to do one now doesn’t he?
I might have heard wrong but I’m pretty sure he said Fury was ring magazine champion in the ring.
That and announcing Usyk’s weight wrong.

Re: Michael Buffer
So many aspects about boxing events need to break away from old traditions and be updated and improved for modern times. Getting shot of Buffer being just one of them.
Boring long drawn out press conferences, boring long drawn out undercards, boring long drawn out break between chief undercard fight and the main event starting, ringwalks that take forever, national anthems, long fighter introductions, the the Buffer rumble cry. It all needs sorted out.
Those that follow the UFC will likely agree they do big fight cards sooo much better. Press confrences quicker and more interesting, great undercards, fast paced events with very little nonsense going on between fights, and Micheals brother Bruce Buffer doing a much better job of introducing the fighters and getting fans buzzing to see the fights. Bruce's style might not be for everyone, but he's grown on me and has a far more entertaining style than his brother.

Re: Michael Buffer
Buffer is way past his sell-by. It’s not his fault. He was great in his day but his time is past now.
