Could Usyk retire and not rematch Fury? could you blame him after all Fury's stalling and nonsense?

I was thinking that would happen. Didn't Usyk say he would retire if he couldn't fight Fury? What else does he have to prove, though? Fury is hands down the best in the division, and he beat AJ twice. He also won convincingly on a lot of cards.

Usyk's achievement last night is difficult to overestimate.
By round 7 he had it all against him, Fury was proving difficult to reach and he was surprisingly getting caught by a few uppercuts and wild shots by Fury's fast hands.
To turn it around took every ounce of mental strength that he's known for, and this despite the refereeing shambles in round 9.
Veteran ref Mark Nelson should not have been given a fight of this importance, and hopefully will never again be after this.
As for Canadian judge Craig Metcalfe's 114 - 113, well, that's going to need some explaining at his next job review interview.
To overcome all of that, and to save Saudi Arabia's reputation for fairness, was an outstanding achievement.
Usyk could walk away now and join Rocky Marciano with a perfect boxing record.
Perhaps he should as there's only money left to fight for now?
On other hand, there's the chance to finish off Fury for good next time and all those millions and millions of Saudi dollars might come in handy if he decides to step in as Ukraine president once that fake actor Zelensky has been disposed of.

giving a count for the ropes holding a guy up is pretty normal, it wasnt a horrible reffing error. and remember that point for the count was what made the difference
tbh, while the fights are being made, id rather see fury-aj than usyk-fury 2. as many new fights as possible

Yup, very, very hard job for a small HW like Usyk to fight a crafty giant like Fury. Also that ref pretty much saved Fury from a TKO loss.Thomastearns wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 04:42 Usyk's achievement last night is difficult to overestimate.

If Usyk is gonna decide to retire, then its perfect. He achieved everything in boxing and I mean everything. Of course, he could make even more money from a rematch but that's up to him.

Hypothetically if usyk decides to fight till he is 40… don’t want him to and doubt he will, what fights are needed…
Fury 2, wilder/zhang, Parker, Joyce, hrgovoc, kabayal, jah? Huni? Moses? Jalov? Jai?
Not much there I care about honestly. Fury 2 is big but to me that wasn’t controversial so I don’t need it again.
If wilder or Zhang absolutely sparked the other it could be sold…
Parker I think is just a very classic very solid fight option.
Joyce is opposites attract style match up…
hrg eh, kab eh, prospects (not for a year or 2), Jai?
I actually like the idea of the next southpaw cruiser jumping strait up and fighting usyk… but fornicate the excelent one would have to be pretty horny for Jai to sell that.

Yes, it wasn’t like the Cacace fight where the Apache was in charge all the way. 4 to 1 underdog before as well.Thomastearns wrote: ↑19 May 2024, 04:42 Usyk's achievement last night is difficult to overestimate.

I want him to either retire or to have one final defence against Hrgovic.
If boxing was a video game, Usyk just completed it.
Fury can fight AJ instead for one more big payday and maybe retire after that.

There's still wins that could boost his legacy by increments, but I think this win right here pretty much etched his name in Stone as an ATG fighter, and there really is nothing bigger he could achieve.
If Wilder knocks out Zhang, it'd be cool to see him fight Wilder just for the hell of it I guess, just to have the 3 biggest marquee names of the era on his record, but I mean...he's already got the best 2 so even though it'd be cool, it's certainly not necessary. His legacy is secure.

Of course Eddie's going to push the Uysk retirement narrative. AJ is never going to beat him in this lifetime and Eddie doesn't have any other decent heavies in the stables.
Uysk doesn't need Eddie in the rematch if it happens, nor in the future if there is one.

Kabayel needs a few more fights but never count him out.
