A Champs Camp stalwart and a really good fighter - RIP
Re: Tony Ekubia
You're right, Carlos. Ekubia could really fight and I remember his spectacular knockout of Croydon's Paul McKenzie on Fight Night. He pulled out another spectacular knockout against southpaw Scot Alex Dickson, a man who boxed Ekubia's ears off for 11 rounds until one big punch made it all academic. That victory snared Tony the British light-welterweight title. He already held the Commonwealth title but two crossroads fights with Liverpool's Andy Holligan in the 1990s went Holligan's way and cost him a world ranking. Nevertheless, Ekubia carried on steamrolling the vast majority of his opponents and stopped 17 of his 21 victims in the end, which speaks for itself.
