Chael Sonnen
Chael Sonnen
Like him? Hate him?
Seemed to be willing to mix it up as a fighter, anyone anytime. Gotta like that.
He's become quite the story teller. He can ramble coherently. And he can make a point while triggering people needlessly.
Something I don't hate.
Trolling. It's not all bad. Brings out thoughts from innocent triggered people that can in turn then be assessed and engaged. Sometimes to a better end. Out of Chaos, comes order. Or at least some imagine such.

I used to hate Chael because I was a big fan of Anderson Silva. In hindsight though, I look back at some of the things he did and said and he was brilliant.BoxBuzz wrote: ↑31 Dec 2023, 17:58 Like him? Hate him?

Now I really like him as a commentator, his thoughts on MMA are normally we put and insightful. So I am definitely a fan.
As a fighter he was flawed but had almost the perfect skill set to beat Anderson Silva when no one could get within shouting distance.
Re: Chael Sonnen

Re: Chael Sonnen
He trashes........yes.......it's his gift.
He was a trash talker. In fact he was the president of the trash talkers union.
So...no one was safe from his assessments.

Re: Chael Sonnen
I'm not saying Chael is wrong or right but in the context of what he is talking about, and take out the trash talk word play, is he wrong about Bruce Lee and Gene LeBell? I think it's hard to say he is wrong about their setting, in LA didn't help their myth grow. They're both legit martial artists, I don't think there is any doubt about that but were either as good as their legend suggests? I'm not sure they are, (or that anyone could be given how their myths have grown) but the thread that Chael is following has merit IMO. Is it a coincidence that to spread their family name and marital art, the Gracies moved to LA? I don't think so. Segal another movie tough guy martial artists, also from LA etc.

Re: Chael Sonnen
really valid points, I think most fall far short of the myths in reality.p4p1 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 01:03I'm not saying Chael is wrong or right but in the context of what he is talking about, and take out the trash talk word play, is he wrong about Bruce Lee and Gene LeBell? Re: Chael Sonnen
His trash talk was pure fun.
Re: Chael Sonnen
chael just likes to talk shit. And he’s really good at it and very entertaining. I could point out examples of him getting beat by judo techniques. I can even give the Japanese names for it. He was smoked by Damian Maia with a throw called hiza guruma ( knee wheel) and tapped out by sankaku jime. ( triangle choke). He looked completely incompetent in defending against both techniques. Maybe he’s still salty about it. Walking around with his lower lip puffed out. And , Lebell was two time national judo champ at open weight. Beat the great Johnny Osako too.p4p1 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 01:03I'm not saying Chael is wrong or right but in the context of what he is talking about, and take out the trash talk word play, is he wrong about Bruce Lee and Gene LeBell? Re: Chael Sonnen
Maybe the best talker MMA has ever had, always welcoming a guy who can change the public perception of MMA fighters from the usual edgy tattooed meathead
Plus he was also a legitimate top competitor due to his collegiate wrestling background, despite the PED concerns (but not the worst case back then)

ya, chael sonnen, man of fraud, money laundering, and assault. cleans up the perception from edgy thug to gobby ped user you dont want as your realtor
Re: Chael Sonnen
I'd say hes bang on. its one thing being a good "martial artist" (myself being one), its a whole other thing being a fighter. the 2 are just incomparable. Bruce Lee was a darling of the hollywood elite. I've trained with quite a few of his original students. he tried it on with Joe Lewis wife and shit himself when Lewis tried to confront him. Locked his front door and refused to come out as Joe was going batshit on his porch.p4p1 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 01:03I'm not saying Chael is wrong or right but in the context of what he is talking about, and take out the trash talk word play, is he wrong about Bruce Lee and Gene LeBell?
