There were several rounds where Taylor was pushing the pace for 95% if the round but still landing nothing of meaning and getting jabbed. For that 95% if the round it’s probably a Taylor round just through intent… but then for 5 % of the round Cartteral lands a nice crispy 3 or 4 punch combo once or twice and to me in a razor thin round that quick flash of crisp work wins it.

Anyone banging on about disgraceful scores needs to say which actual rounds they gave to JT. So many people seem to think that fight scores are based on a broad impression, with the score made to fit that. A guy marginally losing 7 rounds and clearly winning the other 5 loses 115-113, whereas a chap marginally winning every round wins 120-108. Might not 'feel' right, but that's how fights are supposed to be scored.

I thought Taylor won rounds two, three, seven, eight, nine and ten. But I'm obviously not surprised he lost a couple of them as the away fighter.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall II - 25 May 2024
I think Josh had a very good claim for 2,3,7,8,9,10 and 12.
Thought (on one viewing, may I add) the ref had a shocker in the 11th that cost Josh the shutout for the second half of the fight. Split the fighters poorly and gave Jack a much needed breather. Josh gets caught cheaply.
The coverage was so biased on Dazn as well by the way. Not one piece of Taylor work shown in between rounds.
Why do the commentators not provide scorecards during the fight? Was embarrassing listening to them posture Jack into the win when asked for their opinions going into the 12th. How can they give an opinion on who is winning when they aren't scoring the fight round by round like.the judges?

May rewatch tomorrow but genuinely surprised anyone saw the 2nd as anything but a clear Cat round - Taylor didn’t start to get his timing right until the 3rd and was getting hit cleanly by Cat with jabs and straight lefts.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall II - 25 May 2024
I thought Taylor was dominating that round until the break for the head clash.
Catterall got the better of it after that but I thought Taylor just did enough early in the round
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall II - 25 May 2024
All good points. Andy Lee was the worst of the commentary team for me tonight. He was drooling over everything Catterall did but completely ignored the majority of Taylor’s body work that slowed Catterall down & changed the pattern of the fight. There was one left hand that missed by a mile from Catterall early on where he shouted ‘great left hand’.aiden67 wrote: ↑25 May 2024, 19:37 I think Josh had a very good claim for 2,3,7,8,9,10 and 12.

I also don’t think he scored it. He claimed he had it a round to Catterall afterwards but was constantly saying Catterall was winning during the fight & praising everything he did that suggested he thought he was winning at a canter.
I thought afterwards could Taylor have had a shout for round 12. I ended up giving it to Catterall but he only really launched two attacks all round & it certainly wasn’t a clear round. If I gave that or 8 to Taylor I end up with a draw.

Dan Rafael’s just shared the scorecards. 2 judges gave Catterall round 3 & two also gave him round 9.
I don’t think even Catterall’s dad would argue he won them two rounds.
Rounds 3, 7 & 9 are the three rounds that I’ve not seen a single fan give to Catterall yet two of the judges give him rounds 3 & 9. It just doesn’t make sense.

It makes total sense, they are doing their job and they are doing it well. I'm so sick and tired of corruption in the sport, I'd prefer DeepStrike AI scoring over "professional judges" at this point and it's not even released.a force wrote: ↑25 May 2024, 20:13 Dan Rafael’s just shared the scorecards. 2 judges gave Catterall round 3 & two also gave him round 9.

Rewatched without Bradley so for Cat (by turning sound off). I have it 6-6. If I had to an argue a round I would have it Taylor 115-113. However, Jack was blatantly robbed last time. Feels fair to call it 1-1. Hope they do it again but also hope there is a belt as Cat was really robbed to not be the unified champ like he should have been. Scares were bad period in both fights.

Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall II - 25 May 2024
cat deserved the win but it was very competitive, i thought more than the first fight where cat for me won comfortably and was able to box in cruise control most of the time. this time he was gassed second half, looked uncomfortable when taylor was really putting it on him during tired spells. going into the last 2, i felt it was still on the line
many rounds were very close and edged his way just by a few clean shots. when he put his shots together he scored nicely, but he has a problem doing it consistently. i cannot belief how non chalant he was after hurting taylor in the 11th. no killer instinct at all. still, his skills are impressive when he acttually applies them, he's a sharp puncher and tough to hit clean

Great insight Hatcher! Very fair assessment.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall II - 25 May 2024
This was a decent fight and I think Catterall edged it but I agree with Arum the scorecards were ridiculous. The cards suggested Catterall pretty much dominated which wasn't the case. It doesn't make it right that the first fight was scored badly too.
Didn't see the Arum outburst coming there but my gosh was this funny. Even Eddie couldn't contain himself and not laugh. Arum was raging.

Inexperienced judges. 3 overseas judges Taylor would have got that.a force wrote: ↑25 May 2024, 20:13 Dan Rafael’s just shared the scorecards. 2 judges gave Catterall round 3 & two also gave him round 9.

I stuck £35 on Catterall after Josh' pre fight interview.
It took Josh a while to get going and he is a shadow of himself at his peak but I thought he edged that.
The 117-111 scorecards are due to the first fight no question.
Not a bad fight at all.

It's kind of important that fights are judged correctly. That fight last night wasn't. People's careers are on the line. Catterall got the win but it was a terrible set of cards.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑25 May 2024, 20:05 Who cares about the scorecards being wide.

Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall II - 25 May 2024
I scored it 8-4 to Catterwll. I was on a round by round WhatsApp group with my mates with whom I've been watching and going to boxing with for 25 years - some of whom are Scots and we've been to several Josh fights during his career.
None of them had Taylor winning. A previous poster put up a brilliant scorecard with which I completely agreed. I scored the 2nd to JC - some of my mates scored it to JT.
JT was more aggressive and could change his pace better but he just wasn't landing. It's boxing not an athletics meet.

Someone will look at the score cards and think it was a wide decision win.. but really, it was close. So it doesn’t give a fair evaluation of the fight.
I think I’m just happy that Catt won tbh..
