Sod it I’ll go Wilder. Parker didn’t punch hard enough to keep Zhang honest. He was swaggering around in the first few rounds like he was going to squash this little man, so little he respected Parker’s power.

Wilder’s a crap boxer but his power is real. Parker eluded both for much of the fight, and then jumped in with a raiding attach only when he saw the opening. Zhang isn’t going to do that.

Wilder stoppage. Maybe just for sentimental reasons? He’s a complete tool outside the ring but he’s been entertaining in it. I’d like to see him have a last hurrah.

Plus he does like fighting against old blokes doesn’t he?

I can see the potential for a Zhang TD involving Wilder breaking his right hand on that prodigious Asian noggin.

zhang 9 pounds lighter than last fight
wilder 1 pound heavier

why the f@ck does zhang need to be so heavy though? he comes in with too much to haul around. was almost 300 pounds vs parker . 282 is better but even then its so heavy

unless you're like 7 feet tall like valuev you shouldnt be nearing 300 pounds as a boxer

I can't really pick this one. I can see both Zhang plodding him down and bullying him but equally can see Wilder chucking those wild overhand shots and rocking the big guy. Be fun to watch seen as I don't feel particularly invested in either.

Having a hard time as well, I agree with you about Zhang plodding Wilder down. However, I just watched a little bit of Zhang, and he keeps his hands too low with no head movement. Hanging out in midrange like that worked against Joyce because Zhang timed the terribly slow Joyce, but can he do that to Wilder? Parker, with much shorter arms, hammered Zhang with a right hand in the first round. Once again, Zhang did not use enough feints, did not move his head, and was not responsible with his defense; he just walked towards Parker mindlessly. I don't rate either of them but Wilder has that one punch power and knows (or knew) how to use it. He actually knocked Luis Ortiz down with a jab. It wasn't called a knockdown officially but I remember that.

To be honest I'd completely forgotten that even being an option but that is a brilliant lost fight.

I hope so too for this reason.

What a cracker that one would still be!

I guess he just feels comfortable at the weight and knows his body at 41 years of age.

If you go to his boxrec you can see back when people weren't really sold on Zhang, his team had him fighting around 255lb-260lbs into his late 30s. He takes on Forrest, having problems with his kidneys, and barely makes it through the fight (looking like he was going to keel over for a good portion of it). His next fight he was back to 275+lbs, and he stated making bigger strides in the division. Though I agree going over 290lbs seems like it would not be a good idea for a guy with known stamina issues. But I don't have a problem with him coming in close to 280 at his age if he feels comfortable at the weight.

I'm more curious if he will try to make use of that weight advantage like Fury did in his second fight with Wilder.

This fight will come down to how Zhang behaves. If he gives Wilder range to throw windmills it could be lights out. He needs to keep it close and keep the pressure on

Seems a bit like Corrie Saunders v Vitali. Vitali getting rocked far more than was normal, but then comfortably outlasting the big puncher in the late middle rounds.

Agreed :TU:

Wilder couldn`t deal with Furys extra size/weight ... Zhang is similar size, but is wayyyyy stronger and hits wayyyyy harder too.

Wilder's always looked like a brutal ko waiting to happen, this is probably the night. Can never write him off completely though.
