Daniel Dubois To Defend IBF Heavyweight Title Against Anthony Joshua At Wembley Stadium

Newly-minted IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois will make the first defense of his title against Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium on September 21.

Dubois has been crowned champion after Oleksandr Usyk, who became the undisputed ruler with a May victory over Tyson Fury, relinquished the IBF title to allow the London heavyweights to fight for the belt.

Joshua will bid to become a heavyweight champion for the third time in his lucrative and decorated career against a man he has shared sparring rounds with in the past.

Both are members of the heavyweight division’s ‘in-form club’, with Dubois coming off stoppage wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic and Joshua posting one-sided victories over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.

The Wembley stadium bill will include the WBO interim light-heavyweight title fight between 18-0 (13 KOs) Joshua Buatsi and Willy Hutchinson, 18-1 (13 KOs), a middleweight bout between European champion Tyler Denny, 19-2-3 (1 KO), and the highly-regarded Hamzah Sheeraz, 20-0 (16 KOs), and Ireland’s IBF southpaw super featherweight champion will make the first defense of the title he won from Joe Cordina in May. There is also an interesting middleweight clash between Liverpool veteran Liam Smith, 33-4-1 (20 KOs), and 15-1-1 (8 KOs) Josh Kelly, while Portsmouth lightweight Mark Chamberlain, 16-0 (12 KOs), is on the bill against fellow unbeaten contender Josh Padley, 14-0 (4 KOs).

There was strong speculation that the heavyweight rematch between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke would be included on the bill, but that is now likely to go ahead on a separate bill on Sky Sports.

More to follow.

Credit to DD for weathering a storm and going on to show real heart for the best win of his career but if he's that easy to hit against AJ he won't last many rounds

With Wilder done and Fury and Usyk tied up is this the best fight that can be made for AJ in October?

I think AJ wins this but, for me at least, AJ vs Zhang is the more interesting of the two.

I remember AJ vs Parker and the idea of the two of them walking it back doesn’t really sell me right now. Maybe that will change.

parker on a good run, but him vs aj 2 wouldnt be an entertaining fight. the first wasnt good, and if anything parker is harder to watch these days, despite arguably boxing his best

Frank Bruno 2.0 vs Frank Bruno 3.0.

I favor the 2.0 model.

Dubois is far better than the opponents Joshua has been feasting on since Usyk, and Joshua doesn’t throw nearly as many bombs as Hrgovic did last night.

I think it’s a decent fight.

Also none of the bombs had Dubious in any significant trouble.

Those "learning" losses have stood him in good stead but Joshua got to be a harder puncher than Hrg.

That's the best model. Better than the 1.0 version.

Hergovics punches were not 'bombs' they were not landing flush, as hrgovic was half a strep put of range all the time. He also wasn't getting full rotation/extension on the shots.

Joshua hits MUCH harder.

If they fight I expect Joshua to decapitate Dubois inside 6 rounds.

Yeah after seeing Dubois last night it’s hard to see how he sees the halfway point against a bigger puncher in AJ.

They were extolling Duboi's footwork last night, but he's hardly Fred Astaire is he, and Hrgovic was like a state, stood with one glove up to protect himself, bolt upright, with his head held aloft like a like a kid holding a toffee apple.

I have to really question Hrgovic's motivation, that was a m,assive opportunity last night, and he got bashed up, mainly because he was so tired he could barely move after 5 rounds. He got away with that against Zhang before, and I guess he must have thought it would be enough against dubois.

AGREE 100% ... DD too easy for AJ , , like you said Hrgovic was out of range was'nt setting up a big right hand and actually missing a lot anyway , Ak will set the right hand up with a double jab , he'll finish with a hook and he'll knock DD into ga ga land and whats more he'll do it easy , Why because after all this time all the rnds he's done sparring and boxing DD is still not wise enough and does'nt have the footwork to move too his right AWAY from an incoming missile ,

AJ is smarter , hits harder and has better footwork than DD will ever have , because DD i hate to say it is just plain dumb , well its either that or his trainers cannot teach basic boxing , which one i don't know , but either way it won't end well for DD except for his pocket that will get healthier

Whats more i doubt DD will get away with the low blows and blatant headbutts against AJ , he's high profile enough and popular enough for the bodies to have a serious word with the ref beforehand , Last nights reffereeing was definetly favoring DD it won't against AJ

I was most frustrated with Hrgovic not giving a fornicate about the blatant non stop headbutts and just letting them go unnoticed.

Yeah, sadly, I don't think there's much you can teachj dubois, he really is like a kid in a man's body, has a terrible boxing IQ. :Let's face it, before Hrgovic got tired, he was teeing off on Dubois, and if he'd had the stamina to keep it up, then Dubois would have been toast, even with those shots not being properly delivered.

I think Joshua's footwork and speed are somewhat underrated, he was made to look like a statue by Ruiz, bur Ruiz has really quick hands, and Joshua never recovered from that first big salvo he took, he was buggered from there on in.

Comparisons with Bruno are somewhat unwarranted, does anybody really think Bruno would have survived that fight with Wladimir Klitshsko? Absolutely no chance.
