Daniel Dubois ... Underrated or Overrated

Post by Evander »

Daniel Dubois
21-2
20 KO's
Both losses by KO
26 years old
Last 3 fights
Hrgovic won by stoppage
Miller won by stoppage
Usyk lost by stoppage

What do you think, underrated overrated or something else ?

Few fights ago I had almost written him off.

He was massively overrated including by myself, when he was off the Gorman win. After the Joyce loss the hype-train got stuck. With the Larena hard win I almost written him off. Now it seems, like he's good and can learn. He improved since the Joyce loss and the loss to Usyk doesn't tell against Dub, because Usyk is a special boxer, an undisputed champion.

Dub is like Frank Bruno 3.0. He's big and strong, has decent basics, but he's robotic and falls under the effective pressure of his opponents. I can see him winning some other guys in the current top 10, but he'll never win Usyk, Fury and Frank Bruno 2.0. I also won't favor Dub either over Parker or over Kabayel.

The Hrgovic win was good, but whom Hrgovic has really defeated among the top fighters? He wasted a lot of time in his career and boxed like the drunken version of Vit the Klit.

You can make a good case that Dubois defeated Usyk. His body blow was right on the belt, and Usyk wears his belt too high for all his fights. Where Dubois' punch landed on Usyk's body should have been legal, but since it was on a high belt area, it was determined a low blow.

I still think a healthy Frank Sanchez outboxes Usyk with his speed. Sanchez did not look like himself in that loss to Kabayel. And I'm not even a Sanchez fan.

It was low blow and Usyk was hit by multiple low blows before that in that fight. No place for that sh!t in boxing. Referee did a good job and Dubois got savage beating after that.

I don't get how his chin improved so much in a couple years.

Joe Joyce jabbed him to death, while Hrgovic hit him with way harder punches that did nothing.

Maybe he only succumbs to volume? Joyce jabbed him about 200 times.

he was pecked to oblivion by joyce and usyk, not really a chin issue in those

He has a good chin
His meye fell apart against joyce

His chin has seemed to improve which is odd. Only other fighter whose chin many have improved over the years I can think of is Earnie Shavers.

He hasn’t peaked yet. The future is very promising for him.

His chin is obviously very good. Never really got wobbled vs Joyce who can whack. Just took plenty of clean shots from hrg who can whack. Miller didn’t bother him (not a puncher but still)…

Usyk got him good but it was accumulation and frustration not chin issues.

Lerena got him. But to me that felt like one of those random equilibrium scramblers that just can fornicate anyone if the shot lands right spot at wrong time.

He is ok.

Decent skills, not naturally gifted, clearly been taught a bit about how to box. Ok chin and ok hand speed. Can punch a bit and is a big lump.

He has been underrated but made a statement, albeit against a dire Hrg. Should stay away from AJ, though, for now but probably wont and will get KO'd, but we shall see.

When Joshua starts landing the right hand, Dubois gets knocked out.

Depends how much you rate him…

Ddd has secured himself as one of the top guys. Not aj/usyk/fury top of top… But the next lot. DDD, Parker, Zhang (questionable if he is truely that high but he is doing it)…
