Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
Crease guide us out.......unifications are now in order so call them as you see fit......Once all belts are held by one man we will move on. Maybe managers could be allowed to negotiate with one another? which would not require us to mandate? But oversight should be provided to see that no one tries to pull some sort of slim shady shenanigans.
Hopefully we can wrap up on or before event#30.
There will be many bragging rights at the end of this season...but I doubt anyone could be called the "winner".
There will be a fighter with the most performance points.
The fighter who won the MDT
The fighter who ended up with all the belts
The fighter who held various titles the most, the longest reins etc. Sam Langford in the running there?
And of course Maxie Rosenbloom....the very essence and inspiration of all pugilistic inclinations. Pretty much inspiring everyone to want to power slap somebody somewhere sometime.
Charles, Moore, Langford and Greb have commanded my attention overall. but everyone will have opinions.
Non managed fighters almost created chaos...but if we now focus on matches between managed fighters....that storm may have passed.
Oddly, the software had an early breakdown that I can't fix or explain. It refuses to allow but a few fighters into the "Organizational Ratings". I will attempt to address this if possible before next season.
But for the sake of a good laugh......All the organizations according to the software have the champions listed just as they are indicated in our season. However the only fighters that any organization seem to be tracking and rating are as follows:
1. contender in all Sanctioning bodies is Michael Moorer
2 contender in all Sanctioning bodies is Bernard Hopkins
3 contender in all sanctioning bodies is Antonio Tarver
4. contender in all sanctioning bodies is Roy Jones Jr.
and that's all there is!!!
yeah....wtf??
No other fighters are being credited as "contenders". So I assume these managers have greased the palms of the Title Bout Organization......and yes.....an investigation will follow.
Now...if there is a mechanism that allows for fighters to be credited as contenders...and I have not found it....and one of YOU knows how to solve this....I look forward to hearing from you. But this software has been a nightmare over the years. The performance points are working quite sensibly as I have tracked them carefully. So this "contender" issue is the only
debacle that needed attention this season....(at least .thus far).
IN the past we have examples where it has simply failed, or the computer that held the data has failed. (one of my suspicions is that when the historical database gets too large...it simply freezes)
I'm open to another season this year, if crease is..... if 10 or more managers are interested.
My first suggestion is that we reinstate the conditioning check...perhaps every other event?
And I do like having some independent sanctioning bodies. I'm a lover of those who go rogue, and add a bit of chaos in general. Oh..and that diversity thing. Different is often my favorite.
Hope folks have enjoyed this. Could do with a bit more trash talk....maybe a dedicated thread for such things...should we continue.....

Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
Some ideas/thoughts:
1. Either keep the conditioning check on all the time, or off all the time. It shouldn't be rotational.
2. I thought the independent sanctioning bodies did well this year. I'm all for bringing them back.
3. In the MDT, anything after the initial opening rounds should be 12 round fights, regardless of the belts on the line, if any. I also think belts should be able to change hands or be unified after that initial stage. This year's MDT, I'm still not even sure what is going on, but at least it is over.
4. Not sure if it was done this year, but we should have a post in off-topic to see if anybody is interested in joining up for the new season. I think a few posters would, if they knew it was happening.
5. Season should be a hard line week number, I feel even this season. If people don't come together to unify, that's on them.
6. For the draft, let me run a simulator I use for fantasy football. I could live stream it, thought I don't think anyone would actually need that. I can just post the replay, and every manager will be assigned a football player running the field. The order they reach the endzone will be the first round and reverse order for the second. Easy way to ensure a random draft, where everybody has an equal shot for top guys.
7. Any mistakes when fights are ran, are just that, a simple oversight. A couple of times things were attempted to rectify the situation, but probably ended up doing more harm than good. Just explain the error and the manager should move along.
8. Thanks for running the fights Buzz and for Crease posting the weekly schedule. I'll try to be more active monitoring the schedule to make sure there are no errors.

Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
You can vote them when The Super Six vote opens in Week 25.
As am I - we have dabbled with it this season by having 2 of our Managers take the reins - but I want to spread the ownership out further...
5 different Chairmen for the 5 World Championships, maybe something like this:
Lineal - BoxBuzz
WBC - Kevo
WBA - Armageto
WBO - P4P1
IBF - Gilgamesh
That would make for a very interesting season, especially if each man has full autonomy...
And, I would like to extend our stable s to include a 3rd fighter, rather than have a multitude of faceless unmanaged opponents.
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
If we stick with the third fighter, in some past seasons, we had two divisions back to back.
We did HW/CW, LHW/MW from memory.
I don't know if this would melt the system today, but we each picked a fighter from one division and the third fighter was optional for one of the two divisions. The bouts were all ran in whatever division was the highest weight.
So if it was two CW's, it was ran at CW. If a CW wanted to reach for the stars, they could challenge a HW with the fight ran at HW and so on for whatever two divisions we chose.
Made things pretty interesting and almost allowed everyone to get a top fighter, regardless of they drafted near the top of the first or towards the back.

Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
Also another idea to get more of a simulation, allow managers to iron out a few fight details. For example if it's a grudge match and both agree, maybe have a fight at 12 or 15 rounds if both parties agree. If a champ is defending his belt, maybe they (or the commission) can set up a ratch clause for some of the fights before hand. Maybe a few cases of the ridiculous second round cut stoppage title swaps after the fact. Something like a clean winner clause.
Not sure if any of this would be more confusing, just some ideas.

I think at least two should be commission operated. Lineal not being involved..as there is simply no rules, or policies....it always is what it is. Though for our purposes lineal matches would continue to be 15 round retro events. That that does leave 3 for independent operation. So if you are willing to do the next season...you and I would simply set the rules for those two. So there could be some sort of cohesive standard. Whilst the other 3 can go about their rogue ways in whatever maddening approach they "identify" with. lol. So my first inclination would have WBA and WBC commish operated. Wasn't the IBF the first of more independent operations? So that would have IBF....WBO....and IBO...under privately operated oversight. It could be done by lottery if there were more than three applicants.
I was hoping to stave off full unification over the course of the MDT...so there might be a bit of drama left over. Maybe the MDT should coincide with the final week of the next season?
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
I'm not too sure about that, Buzz. The MDT has always sorta been a mid-season event.
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
Well maybe a shorter season then. This has been a rather "build it as we go" endeavor since the beginning...so what ever was in the past...was pretty much happenstance. However no one was forced to join the MDT...and in the past I think some managers have opted out....so there's that. this may have been the first time everyone joined in. Anyway I'm not married to a process.....but I would like to post the process in advance so that the season is predictable in terms of timing, and what and when special events occur. I may be mistaken, but I think that's what folks would like. Now if chaos and happenstance is ok with everyone....I'm ok with it. I'm being quite serious here. I really am. But a framework or some sort of predetermined schedule approach seems to be preferred. I'm fine with making it clear, and presenting it ahead of the next season. It would also allow me to be more dependable in my delivering of the outcomes with fewer chance of me making bonehead mistakes.
And general policies and guidelines such as how we use conditioning checks... so that the game of chance we are playing is at least comprehensive with the only surprises being the performance of the fighters. Other things we can decide is what set of general rules to use. I'm also inclined to want 15 round fights to continue only for lineal championships. I did like that....and the sanctioning bodies can choose how they use the 10's and 12's. I would imagine 12 being preferred for title champs. 3's are useable. as are 4,6 and 8. The software does not support any other options for fight length.
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
First of all, thanks to Crease and Buzz for running the season. It has been fun.
1. I didn’t mind the titles not being able to be unified during the MDT. I like the idea I had for TJ e WBO’s approach that the winner of what would be a unification fight has to choose what championship to keep and the other title is declared vacant. It does push titles outside of the MDT straight away and let’s the two highest ranked fighters not coming off a loss outside of the MDT fight for the title. I would make an exception for the final though. It’s the biggest single fight of the sim season and as such should be given as much prestige as possible.
2. We all got very lax about mandatories after the MDT. This is something that I don’t think we can do next season.
3. I enjoyed being in charge of the WBO. I put some fighters who weren’t really top 10-15 material in there for more realism. I think managers adding a bit of their own spin on the sanctioning bodies is fun. I agree with Buzz that two championships should be independent though.
4. I formally request to push Fosters for the new and indefinite sponsor for the Super Six. The Super Six would then forever be known as the Fosters Super Six.
5. I agree with Buzz that we have a predetermined schedule.
6. The way the very first championship fights are decided should be changed IMO. Greb was rated second when the rankings came out. Instead of being rewarded for a good early season and taking some good scalps it felt like he was punished by being offered the WBC title fight against the #1 rated fighter. Priority should be given to the highest ranked fighters. My suggestion is that the 4 title fights would be arranged as such:
1v8
2v7
3v6
4v5
The higher ranked opponents are in theory given an easier fight due to the work they’ve already put in and the advantage gradually shrinks to nothing by the time you get to the 4v5 fight. This would encourage managers to take a few more risks early on with the reward being an easier fight to win your first title.

Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
some good thoughts. I have to say upon reflecting on the two division ideas....this will create a lot more work for me. I'm not against it...however it's twice as many fighters to scribe into the full list...which is time consuming...and it's twice as many titles to keep track of. I've goofed a few times this season....based on that. If that's the road we go, I'll have to put together some home spun templates to figure out how to never make an error when it comes to assigning title fights. Much hast to manually inserted into each fight....and two weight classes makes for double that trouble.
Not sayin' it can't happen...but maybe I need another season to get this down pat before I take that on. Still...not ruling it out.

Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
If we start back up after the summer, plenty of time to figure things out We just have to make sure to check back in this forum periodically and hopefully recruit some new blood before hand.
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
I think it was you who mentioned recruiting Armageto, it would be nice if we could get a few more faces in there.
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
If one of us tosses a post out in off topic and another drops one in current (it is current news!), we could probably get another 2/3 managers with our already solid group.
I figure the best idea would be to post it, say 2 weeks before we know if a start date for the new season. Let people see it early enough, but not too early that they will forget.
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
I think another thing to consider is that we need a longer season if we continue to have the super six and the MDT (both things I am in favour of keeping). The MDT lasted until week 22 and the S6 starts in week 26. There isn't a lot of time between the two. Failing a longer season, perhaps we need to start the MDT earlier? If week 1 of the MDT was say week 11 the final would be week 18, assuming my maths is correct. That givers time for the sanctioning bodies to have a couple of mandatories each before the S6 is voted on.
Re: Please read!! Season to wrap up soon. Some things to consider.
That's usually because the season's were 40 weeks, or 35 in some cases that there was a bigger gap between them.p4p1 wrote: ↑11 Jun 2024, 21:38I think another thing to consider is that we need a longer season if we continue to have the super six and the MDT (both things I am in favour of keeping). I actually prefer longer seasons - like 40 weeks because it feels that we squeeze every bit of drama out of the weight class before moving on.
