Oleksandr Usyk vs. Ray Mercer
Usyk of today against Mercer from the Lewis fight.
How do you see it going?

Usyk has more tools, he'd secure a dec win.

From the Lewis fight? Mercer for sure. Mercer very easily could have got that decision, which would have changed boxing history. It was a very good fight. Usyk was never at this level. Had enough trouble with the clown that he just fought.EdwardRevolver1993 wrote: ↑07 Jun 2024, 02:03 Usyk of today against Mercer from the Lewis fight.

Now Mercer certainly was inconsistent. you certainly could pick some fights where he was lackluster and would have lost. But just going with the Lewis fight, he would have beaten Usyk with that performance.

usyk wins a decision, his mobility and quickness allow him to edge it . i always thought lewis beat mercer clearly and that people overhype mercer's showing there
btw, usyk has mentioned boxing at cruiser again recently. maybe that's because he's aware that a true boxing history sage said he still needs to beat more ' 10 round fighters' like terry porter, mike rush, and courtney butler to match james toney's cruiser legacy

Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Ray Mercer
I admit, I never scored Lewis-Mercer fight round-by-round. That's what I'll probably do today in the evening.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Ray Mercer
I think it's another case of Mercer giving a good effort, and coming up short against a better fighter. Usyk wins the decision.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Ray Mercer
Usyk and Mercer would trade punches, but Usyk counter more punches to take a split decision.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Ray Mercer
Mercer easy, too busy and would keep Usyk in his shell.

Mercer would be massively wrong for Uysk - could go either way though but Mercer would be a night in the trenches for him for sure. I would pick Mercer but it could go the other way, good fight!
Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Ray Mercer
It is Usyk all the way for me......got better footwork allowing him to get in and out of range, he has the cleaner scoring shots, good engine and Usyk carries enough dig to stop Mercer just steaming-in. Usyk has no problems with big dudes either.
Yup, Mercer deserved a draw (at the very least) with Lewis. He also busted-up Morrison and stopped the pretty decent Olympian Damiani......but he lost to a dusty Holmes, had problems with Ferguson and even had a SD against Odum.
That's not a record - even on the rise - that suggests he can deal with Usyk.

Usyk had big problems with Chisora and Mercer wasn't a big dude for his time or this time - 6ft solid and about 220-230? He had excellent hand speed, great jab and he was an Olympic gold medallist and he was hard as nails - nobody came close to putting him on his arse in his prime.
He would attack Usyk to the body and his high waistband wouldn't help him.

chisora-usyk eh, how about mercer-marion wilson. only 2 fights before lewis. or mercer vs jesse ferguson? winning 3 rounds vs ancient larry? the damiani who clowned prime mercer for 8 rounds?
mercer lost to lewis fair and square and would lose to usyk too, give him a good fight but be loser to the stars again. i think sometimes mercer gets too many breaks

Yeah, Chisora vs Uysk - smaller, faster heavyweight who went in and gave him grief, has problems with pressure off smaller heavyweights and of course Breidis he would have had problems with Mercer (and Holyfield)margaret thatcher wrote: ↑10 Jun 2024, 16:49 chisora-usyk eh, how about mercer-marion wilson. only 2 fights before lewis. or mercer vs jesse ferguson? winning 3 rounds vs ancient larry? the damiani who clowned prime mercer for 8 rounds?

Marion Wilson, could have been an off night - they have them in boxing.
Jesse Ferguson wasn't a bad fighter, didn't he beat Buster Douglas? And didn't he take Oliver McCall to a close one? Styles make fights, even at heavyweight - could have been personal problems, off nights etc. These things happen.
Yes, Mercer did lose to Lewis but because he lost to Lewis doesn't mean he would lose to Usyk - Mercer would be in his face and like against Lewis, Uysk wouldn't have the artillery to fend him off and Merciless was a great body puncher who would give Uysk plenty of problems - one things for sure, if Lewis' booming power wasn't able to keep Mercer at bay then neither would Uysk's.
