It's a fascinating fight, actually. On the night he defeated Berto, Ortiz was really on his game (physically, mentally, tactically). Overall, he had the skills to beat Mayorga.

However, Mayorga of 2001-2003 was a bad man. I think, he can take all that Ortiz throws at him. Meanwhile, Ortiz might feel uncomfortable against Mayorga's wild, unorthodox style. Plus, if Josesito Lopez managed to break Ortiz's chin (literally), Mayorga might do it as well, with one of his swings.

I'd favour Mayorga. But it's a better fight than many might think.

ortiz was a really nice fighter offensively and could floor mayorga, but i think mayorga is the type of hard nut who would get to him eventually . a bit like the maidana fight

Ortiz is more skilled than Mayorga, faster than him, has lots of advantages, but the bottom line is he just flat out isn't tough enough to beat Mayorga.
