1. Salvador Sanchez (the highest level operator I've seen, even better than the hype he gets. Elite in every single department. No flaws whatsoever)

2. Riddick Bowe (tremendous excitement in most fights, the definition of a bully in the ring, with the heart of 10 lions)

3. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. (exceptional pressure fighter, extremely high level inside fighting, parrying, blocking, manoeuvring opponents around with the shoulders. Best left hook to the body in boxing history)


With that said, Chavez Sr. should count himself lucky that Sanchez died because he would have got an absolute drubbing from Sanchez in my view.

All of them where he is out boxing a guy who could put him on bambi legs with one flush punch. Which was pretty much everyone.
That's why I like watching him, it was edge of the seat stuff.
And he knew his vulnerability, but still kept come, and not ducking all comers just because they could punch. That's brave, and I admire it.

Probably the Lamont Peterson SD. Razor close, and some quality boxing from both guys. And then there was Canelo where Khan was boxing beautifully, and you thought - he might do this- and then he was out.
Edge of the seat stuff.

Absolute tit out of the ring, but skillful and brave inside it.

I dunno if you get the reality show “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!” Down under, or you have your own version, but when Amir was on that it was clear to see he’s just daft and not one bit malignant. Always liked him, inside and outside the ring

1. RJJ - the best fighter I've ever seen live. Of course I appreciate he diminished his legacy by going on too long but I saw him several times live and at his peak he was unbeatable.


2. The Marvellous One. Too young to have seen him live of course, but being allowed to stay up late with my late Grandad and Dad to either listen to the radio or watch on ITV are special memories.

I'm probably going to be accused of lying again but i sat next to him for a few minutes at a corporate event. One of my best friends is now the General Counsel of Heineken and at that stage they owned Tecate which sponsored a lot of Vegas fights and there was a surreal lunch.


But to answer your question mate: Ruiz (an epic performance),Lacy, Calzaghe (lived in NYC at the time but we was a shadow of himself by then),Trinidad - again in NYC but it was a sad spectacle between 2 ATGs. Woods, first fight Montell.

There are probably a couple more I can't recollect without going on BoxRec. In my home office the only framed photos I have on the wall is me with RJJ, Joe Frazier and LL.

Loved the CAT. 3 memories of his fights - some funny,some bitter sweet.


1. Was in a long term relationship with a German girl who was doing her masters in Hanover (city with the largest forest in Europe). She was slightly annoyed when I came to see her and took her to the Rochigianni fight on the Saturday rather than a nice meal.

2. Sheffield for the Rothmann fight. My normally sensible boxing compadre John was in charge and of accommodation and inadvertently booked us into a DSS/asylum hostel.


3. Haye fight. Found out that morning my Mum had terminal cancel. Don't want to go but my Dad insisted I should and spent a wonderful evening with some of my best mates to lift me from the worst of circumstances.

So very fond memories of Carl.

When its all said and done, nothing excites and entertains me more than a home fighter in a big title fight. For that reason....

Ricky Hatton tops my list. I watched his entire career, never missed a fight, he gave me so many great nights of entertainment.

So many other Brits would make my list its too hard to nail down only three. Lewis, Calzaghe, Froch, Khan, Hamed, Taylor, Burns, Harrison, Fury, Joshua, Haye all need a mention.

I'm not naming Benn, Eubank etc, they were a bit before my era.

LH certainly in the highest echelon. The footage of him running over cars, jumping from one to try and attack Trevor Berbick remains one of the greatest videos of all time.

Fair to say he was a tough guy.
