He says he was having fun, but I felt it was mostly the showboating of someone who couldn't win rounds decisively. Usyk didn't bite because he's too good to have a fragile ego.

can't wait for the rematch. first fight was outstanding. Fury delivered some of the best body punching from a huge guy since Riddick Bowe. However Usyk as we know is the only one other than Holyfield (some 30 years ago) to go up against the giants, and had enough skill and character to basically damage Fury's nose enough to set up a knockdown which sealed the fight.
I don't listen to one word that Fury says about how the fight went or what he will do next time. if he takes responsibility for the defeat in his preparations, and comes into the rematch in great shape, with a less complacent and more focused attitude (less of that walking away, looking away or touching the ropes - this achieves nothing), let's see what extra he can do. Fury will have to do something momentous, vs the absolute focus of Usyk, who has surprisingly grown into the heavyweight division following developing fights vs fringe contenders, gatekeepers, prospect/contenders and as title holder - and was the first one to actually walk Fury down, and pay him for his low left hand (with right hooks).
Usyk using not only left crosses but also right hooks gave him a big advantage vs Tyson, who was very right hand happy. Can Tyson add another weapon to his arsenal, besides that phenomenal right to the body?
I expect a great rematch and whatever happens, I feel it will help rub out that appalling showing vs Ngannu. I'll be happy to see Fury go out on his shield like a great, but would prefer to see him avenge the defeat, and achieve his second win over a Ukrainian Hall of Famer.
One thing I'll never do is buy a ticket for his fights, as Fury is unreliable. Feels like a modern affliction, Ala Calzaghe.

One thing that I feel is being overlooked for the rematch - or possibly ignored, is how truly terrified Fury looked every time Usyk got close to him after the 9th round battering.
Its impossible to not see is the terrified look on Furys face as he is battered across the ring, and the pathetic sorry for himself look on his face as he sits in the corner following that round ... he didn`t look this defeated after any of his knock downs by Wilder, Ngannou or any of the others.
I wouldn`t be surprised if we see a more reluctant and very gun shy Fury in the rematch.
The classy Usyk admits having made mistakes, and promises to avoid these in the rematch.

If this fight is anything like the first, we are in for a real treat.
I expect Fury to be better, but have a feeling Uysk will adapt.
My prediction is that Fury will box himself into an unbeatable lead, but will be made to box the whole 3 minutes each round to do so.
And Uysk will get to him late, stop him in the 11th.
My prediction was wrong last time, so don't put any money on it!!

This project has been going on for a long time ignored by all the big names in the business. It is the best thing possible to happen to it that AJ has got behind it, whatever the reason. I'm guessing John Oliver called in a favour.

Silly to write Fury off, it was close and so far Fury has performed better in rematches.

It's definitely possible he will be very reticent about getting involved up close. Usyk definitely had him shook.tonyevs wrote: ↑24 Jun 2024, 12:26 One thing that I feel is being overlooked for the rematch - or possibly ignored, is how truly terrified Fury looked every time Usyk got close to him after the 9th round battering.

Fury has fought so little quality throughout his career, especially as a world title holder, that the likes of Dermot & Chisora are given such value.
Lots feel Wilder has since been brutally exposed as possibly on par with Chisora .. i feel Chisora is/was better than Wilder.
I agree Fury could win the rematch. But looking at the manner of the loss to Usyk you would have to heavily favour Usyk.
We know Usyk has the skills to change his fight plan and adapt against quality opposition - we simply have not seen that from Fury.
Seeing a guy battered in the manner Fury was often has the guy hesitant to engage in their next fight, even against safe soft opposition. Throw them in against the same guy who battered them like David Price against Thompson or Joe Joyce against Zhang and it typically ends badly.

Yeah Usyk is the favourite but I wouldn’t write Fury off. I think I had Usyk winning by two points and that was with me calling the 7th a drawn round which many gave to Fury. I can’t imagine Fury will piss about in the early rounds in the rematch so I don’t see it being a foregone conclusion that Usyk batters him.tonyevs wrote: ↑25 Jun 2024, 02:15I agree Fury could win the rematch. I am not predicting Usyk batters Fury - he may opt to outbox him, or he may well catch him at some time during the 12 rnds with one punch that KO`s Fury. What we seen in the first fight demonstrates Usyk is capable of any of these results.Controversial wrote: ↑25 Jun 2024, 02:34Yeah Usyk is the favourite but I wouldn’t write Fury off. Fury pissing about early on was likely, in part, to enable him to slow the pace or attempt to reset. Fury likes to fight at his own plodding pace - trying to mug Usyk off didn`t really work as well as he expected though did it. Furys tried and tested practices simply didn`t work against Usyk.
One area I gave Fury great credit for was when he was buzzed in the 9th. With his legs stiffened and his brain on emergency power his survival mode kicked in to do what it has previously done to get him out of trouble - he tried to grab and hold Usyk, but he got buzzed by another shot - again survival instinct reacts and he desperately attempts to grab and hold again, and again he was buzzed. Its incredible that Fury was able to have the awareness despite having had his brain badly wobbled to then change his survival mode default to grab again and instead realise he had to get away from Usyk.

Fury was definitely lucky not to be stopped, I don’t think many could really argue if he was so yes his powers of recovery are pretty good as is his stamina. I know he gets a lot of stick for being flabby etc but to be up on his toes and win the 12th shows his conditioning isn’t as bad as people make out.tonyevs wrote: ↑25 Jun 2024, 03:00I am not predicting Usyk batters Fury - he may opt to outbox him, or he may well catch him at some time during the 12 rnds with one punch that KO`s Fury. One thing I’ve noticed upon more recent viewings was how often Fury had to pull a face and “mess around” when Usyk tagged him, even in rounds Fury generally controlled.
Had it not been for the 9th you could argue that Fury was taking the piss out of Usyks power. Now you wonder if Tyson was using it to get some recovery time.

I think that's spot on. Fury's so entrenched with the mind games that he feels the need to do it during the fight as well. You don't get points for punching your own head in an act of bravado after getting tagged though, you do get them from punching the opponent's head and stealing back whatever advantage they just gained.
Usyk's pre-fight saying of 'Don't be afraid, I won't leave you alone' was quite literally him telling Fury that he was going to be pressing him and in front of him the whole fight. Fury's little habits of going for a walk to get a breather never worked, Usyk went right after him.
Fury will have noted the success he was having with the right uppercut, both to the head and to Usyk's body. He really did hurt Usyk with it, should have pressed forward a lot more at that point and jumped on him. It was one of the rare moments where Usyk completely backed off.
He was lucky the bell went at that moment after the count in the 9th as he looked totally shattered as the ref counted. Any earlier in the round and the follow up attack may well have ended it.
I think the rematch will just be a continuation of the first fight with both having their moments of success and rounds that can be split either way. Fury needs to use his size advantage to gain more control of the centre of the ring, not allow Usyk to push him back against the ropes so much. Any close rounds might well be given to the fighter seen to be forcing the fight. I'm expecting another close fight, I don't see the first fight and Fury's first loss affecting him mentally, he doesn't have that kind of shrinking mentality.

It's great to see some of the neutral, better informed posters looking forward to the rematch. I don't believe Fury means a word he said in that interview. He will be switched on with a lot more to go on coming into this one. Whether that's enough or not is a different matter.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
I thought the first fight was magnificent. Every single second of every single round was hotly contested: there was an intense battle going on, be it mentally or physically.
I felt that Uysk was the worthy winner and Fury a worthy opponent. I'm glad that after all the road blocks and posturing, he stepped up. And he really did. His CV is so much the better for it too.
A rematch is hard to predict because each guy might be that bit more shop warn than before. Personally, I'd like them both to retire with their health in tact. That trumps money and prestige.
If the rematch does happen, and it looks like it will, I can see Fury doing well again but also getting stopped. He was in desperate trouble in that round 9 and Uysk now knows he can hurt him.
Incidentally, Uysk's win over Dubois looks better and better given Dubois' recent wins.

Putting aside the fact I'm very much pro Fury, I don't think there was ever any doubt he wanted the fight. I think all the messing about was over money. I saw first hand all Queensbury and all of Usyk's team getting on like a house on fire in Poland at the Dubois fight. I also got talking to a lawyer who was out there courtesy of team Usyk. He'd been working on the fight from the start and guaranteed all wanted it. I wasn't on here at the time but if I was I'd have had 9 months of piss taking for saying it!big lennox wrote: ↑25 Jun 2024, 08:03 I thought the first fight was magnificent.
