Johnny Fisher vs Alen Babic headlines July 6th NXTGEN show

Both Johnny Fisher and Alen Babic scored quick knockouts in their first fights of 2024

Step aside, Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury, it’s time for a real heavyweight fight. Matchroom announced today that cult heroes Johnny Fisher and Alen Babic will meet atop a July 6th NXTGEN show at London’s Copper Box Arena.

“I have no words other than I am locked in and ready for the hardest fight of my life,” said Fisher.

“Johnny and his dad have definitely over-ordered this time in picking me for his next fight......I am going to enjoy teaching this POSH! boy some very Savage lessons,” said Babic. “I look forward to the fight but no university education can give Johnny the appetite for what’s coming his way!”

“The Romford Bull” (11-0, 10 KO) smashed his way through the bottom rungs of Britain’s domestic scene before tearing up Dmytro Bezus in last February’s US debut. This represents a massive step up in class for the 25-year-old, who’s yet to face any of BoxRec’s top 250 heavyweights.

Babic (12-1, 11 KO) enjoyed a similar arc, albeit with slightly better competition, before his own step up saw him smashed in a round by Lukasz Rozanski. He spent the next year or so on the sidelines, then returned to heavyweight to batter Steve Robinson on Sky’s Wardley vs Clarke show last March.

This will only be “Sweet Science” in the Mythbusters sense, but I’m here for it. I’ll never say no to cartoonish violence while this heart of mine still beats.

This is a terrific fight. And indeed, both men really really tough. Shame Babic lost his 0, wasn't it a premature stoppage or do I remember wrong?

I like Fisher, I really do.

I’ll have to rewatch it as well but I thought at the time the stoppage was ok, I think he was all over the place had been down and there was still time
Left in the round. But may be completely wrong.

Fisher is one of the good guys, so I'm looking forward to seeing him beat Babic.

Mismatch, Babic is a rubbish cruiserweight, he could get badly hurt here in r1 or r2.

At a certain level Johnny Fisher has a very good weapon and that's his jab. The combination of that, his enormous overhand right and Babic's ability to telegraph what he is doing via carrier pigeon should mean Fisher gets a KO win.

Nice fight.
Fisher has the edge of sheer size and power but I suspect he's one of those big guys who is a tad chinny or may gas.

Yeah Harry Armstrong gave him a good fight and Armstrong isn’t a puncher at all with the greatest of respect to him.

You could see in that fight it’s a case of riding out the onslaught of the first two rounds and then either having the boxing skill to outbox him like I’d expect a Sol Dacres kinda guy to do, or having the power and pace to then get on top of him and grind him out of there. I expect once he steps up through a few levels that will be what happens.

In saying that he is getting training camps and sparring that are as good as your world ranked guys so he may just keep improving and improving. He hasn’t turned up fat for a single fight.

Harry Armstrong gave Ian a tough fight despite not being a heavy puncher. It’s clear that surviving the first two rounds of Ian's onslaught is key. Boxers with the skill to outbox him or the power to grind him down will likely succeed as he steps up in levels. However, with high-quality training camps and sparring, Ian could keep improving. Notably, he has shown up in great shape for every fight so far.

I wouldn't count Babic out. He has zero defense but on the other hand has massive offense and courage and Fisher ain't no master boxer

That's some good advice right there.
If Babic comes in swinging and gets past Fisher's jab, he could well cause an upset. Jonny needs full focus early on because Babic - while basic - is still quite dangerous.

I got money on a Babic victory by any method at 5-1. Could find odds for a stoppage

Babic has the better opposition of the two and has shown he likes a tear up. Haven`t been impressed by Fisher at all yet and see him as a bit of a gimmick with the bosh bollocks and the massive fanbase.

Babic will be in there to take his head off and we haven`t seen what Fisher is like when someone puts it on him.

Interview with Babic today, he does talk a good game. I think Fisher will destroy him though.

I'm on a good run. Dubois KO, Paro points and Tyler Denny. Not going ball deep on Babic, but something tells me Fisher is getting savaged
