sad news. his fight with feeney was a classic.
Re: RIP Ray Cattouse
Absolute war!
RIP Champ.
BBC highlights version. That was how they showed a lot of fights in those days. The rest of the fights ended up on the cutting room floor and in most cases lost forever. Terrible shame.

It was a legendary fight in the UK, people talked about it for years. Ray landed bombs, but George was hard as nails. I don’t know how anyone ever knocked him out.
He was on a late career run when Ray ran into him.
RIP Ray A true Warrior.

Re: RIP Ray Cattouse
not sure if a full version is still out there, cattouse with virtually non stop punching. at one point throws a nontuple jab. worked too hard for his own good and even then doesnt really start to flag until the 13th. must have thrown over 1000 punches. feeney very fit himself and still had the gas to take advantage and finish it in the 14th
meanwhile, i throw 10 punches and am half passed out these days

George is still about? That’s good to hear. I did wonder about him when I looked up his record the other day, after hearing about Ray’s passing.
I always remember being shocked when George took on the red hot Liverpool prospect, ex Olympian Tony Willis, and George flattened him inside a round.
I’d never seen it before, but someone’s now put in on YouTube.

Yep, watching the vid it was a lightning strike of the perfect 1-2 by George that pulled off that freak result. Only the hellacious punching Pat Barrett managed to KO Tony Willis I think, and like you say, that was late on.

Yes, he’s had a few health problems but is still pretty fit and drives a taxi 6 days a week in Hartlepool.
Willis was the only opponent George ever disliked, because Willis totally disregarded George in the build up to the fight….said George was “just a stepping stone”
George was a notoriously slow starter but he did 4 x 3 minute rounds on the pads just before the start of the fight, so he was well warmed up by the time the bell went.
Even after that first round stoppage Willis was in denial, saying to George that the fight was stopped early, he could continue etc

Ahh thanks for the update, good to hear he’s doing ok, definitely make for an interesting taxi ride w George reminiscing about his career - Boom boom Mancini and his epic with Ray Cattouse.
I never heard that backstory about Tony Willis
Maybe tell George it’s on YouTube. I’m sure he’d get a kick out of seeing it after all these years.

Why reply in such an aggressive manner ?
Er, because you have made it up. Possibly.

I replied in an aggressive manner cos only a tool like you would think that someone who has been on here over 20 years would post a malicious post about a respected fighter.
If it isn’t true then George Feeney has been misinformed by someone in the fight game, not because I’ve “made it up”

It’s been posted on Facebook by someone with the same surname Cattouse saying “RIP uncle Ray” so looks like the information is correct.johnty1888 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 15:28nobleart1978 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2024, 11:14 Why reply in such an aggressive manner ?

Well I apologise sincerely.
I was hoping it wasn't true.
Sadly, it is.
