Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz boxing fight ‘confirmed’ for March in Las Vegas

Boxing rematch between former UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz has been reportedly set for March 2024 in Las Vegas. Their first fight was held inside the Octagon in November 2019 in New York City, where “Gamebred” took the win via TKO due to doctor stoppage and landed the “BMF” belt.

The fight was announced as “confirmed” by “Happy Punch” on X. The post stated that the bout had been given “the green light” from the UFC.

Former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal (35-17 MMA, 1-0 boxing) last fought in April 2023, when he dropped a unanimous decision against Gilbert Burns. Prior to that, the 39-year-old Miami native suffered the defeat by UD against Colby Covington and a pair of losses against the then 170-pound champion Kamaru Usman by KO and decision.

Nate Diaz (21-13 MMA, 0-1 boxing) was in action last August, when he made his pro boxing debut against Jake Paul, but lost the 10-round bout by unanimous decision. In his last UFC fight in September 2022, the 38-year-old Stockton southpaw submitted Tony Ferguson in the fourth round.

Once the rumoured match gets confirmed and joins the boxing schedule for 2024, the official announcement, including date and location, is expected to be made shortly.

Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal boxing match rescheduled for July in Anaheim, CA

Old UFC rivals Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal have July 6 set as a new date for their boxing match. The contest also lands at a new location – Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. The pair goes head to head in the 10-rounder at light heavyweight.

The bout was originally scheduled for June 1 at The Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA. In April, Diaz and Masvidal run “The Baddest Tour” with the press conferences held in Las Vegas, New York City, Miami and Los Angeles.

The rescheduling of the event was reportedly forced due to June 1 also being the date for UFC 302: Makhachev vs. Poirier PPV card live from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Plus, Dmitry Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight title defense against Malik Zinad, who replaced injured Artur Beterbiev, airs live from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The postponement of the event to a new date was reported by Boxing Scene. As of writing, Fanmio (the platform to stream Diaz vs Masvidal pay-per-view) is yet to confirm the change.

38-year-old Stockton native Nate Diaz (21-13 MMA, 0-1 boxing) and Miami’s 39-year-old Jorge Masvidal (35-15 MMA, 1-0 boxing) first met in New York City in November 2019. Battling it out for the “BMF” belt in the headliner of UFC 244, Masvidal took the win via TKO. The fight was stopped by the cageside physician after the third round due to a cut over Diaz’s right eye.

In his pro boxing debut last August, Diaz dropped a unanimous decision against Jake Paul. Masivdal made his pro boxing debut back in June 2005, when he defeated Joseph Benjamin by majority decision.

Press Release

Fanmio announced a star-studded co-main event for “LAST MAN STANDING: DIAZ VS. MASVIDAL” as two-time middleweight world champion and boxing star Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs returns to action to take on the exciting contender Shane Mosley Jr. in a 10-round super middleweight showdown on Saturday, July 6 in a Fanmio PPV from Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Headlined by the much anticipated pro boxing battle between combat sports superstars Nate Diaz and Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, the Fanmio PPV event will now boast this co-main event between star contenders looking to go through each other to make a statement on the big stage.

“I can’t wait to get back in the ring and do what I love most,” said Jacobs. “I’ve been training and I feel rejuvenated and ready to make another run to the top. This is a great opportunity on a big platform as the co-main event to Diaz vs. Masvidal, and I’m coming to make the most of it. I’ve got a great opponent, but don’t blink, because I’m preparing to end this fight in style.”

“I am blessed and grateful for this opportunity,” said Mosley Jr.. “It means a lot to be fighting on such a big event and it’s even more motivating to be going up against a legend in the sport. I’m thankful to Golden Boy and my whole team for making this possible. Don’t miss this fight on July 6.”

“My son is a very hard worker, he’s a student of the game and I believe he’s going to win this fight on July 6,” said “Sugar” Shane Mosley, International Boxing Hall of Famer & Mosley Jr.’s father. “I’ll be working with him in training and he’s going to look spectacular. Fans won’t want to miss it.”

“When we were deciding on which fight to make for the co-main event to Diaz vs. Masvidal, we wanted a fight like Daniel Jacobs vs. Shane Mosley Jr. that’s evenly matched with fighters the fans want to see,” said Fanmio CEO Solomon Engel. “Daniel is refreshed to make another run at a world championship and Shane is at a new peak in his career. We look forward to watching these guys go at it on July 6.”

These two matchups top a pay-per-view available now for pre-order at FANMIO.com for $79.99. Additional pay-per-view undercard matchups will be announced shortly.

Tickets for the live event are on sale now starting at only $55 (plus applicable fees and taxes) and are available through Ticketmaster. A limited number of VIP packages are available starting at $1,750. Packages, which include the best ringside seats, all-inclusive hospitality in Honda Center’s exclusive Impact Club, the opportunity to step into the ring after the fight, VIP access to the weigh-in and more.

Fanmio will present the event in association with Diaz’s Real Fight Inc. and Masvidal’s Gamebred Boxing Promotions.

One of the most inspirational figures in this generation of champions, Jacobs (37-4, 30 KOs) completed his road from cancer survivor to world champion in 2014 when he stopped Jarrod Fletcher in the fifth round to capture the vacant WBA Middleweight Championship. From there, the Brooklyn-native would go on to reach the pinnacles of the sport, challenging middleweight greats Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin. He became a world champion for the second time in 2018, as he edged out Sergiy Derevyanchenko to take home the IBF Middleweight World Championship in one of the year’s most memorable bouts. His resume includes a series of triumphs over former world champions including Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Sergio Mora twice, Caleb Truax, Ishe Smith and Peter Quillin, who Jacobs knocked out in round one of their all-Brooklyn showdown in December 2015.

The son of boxing Hall of Famer Shane Mosley, Mosley Jr. (21-4, 12 KOs) has established his own place in the sport and enters this fight on a four-bout winning streak, including KO triumphs in his last two outings. The 33-year-old Los Angeles area native now trains in Las Vegas and most recently scored stoppage victories over D’Mitrius Ballard last June and Joshua Conley in December. Mosley fought his way to the final round of the 2018 edition of The Contender series, dropping a decision to Brandon Adams in the finale. Mosley has never been stopped in his four defeats, with three of those losses coming narrowly via either split or majority decision. - If you use these WBN quotes, please link back to the source: https://www.worldboxingnews.net/2024/06 ... -masvidal/

Curmel Moton added to Nate Diaz-Jorge Masvidal pay-per-view undercard

Junior lightweight prospect Curmel Moton was last seen on one pay-per-view undercard – and will next be seen on another.

Moton, an 18-year-old with a record of 3-0 (2 KOs), is slated to appear on this Saturday’s Nate Diaz-Jorge Masvidal show streamed on Fanmio, the streamer announced Wednesday. In addition to the boxing match between those two former MMA stars, the undercard also includes other boxing matches such as Daniel Jacobs vs. Shane Mosley Jr.

Moton will face Nikolai Buzolin (9-8-1, 5 KOs). The 36-year-old has lost four in a row, including a six-round unanimous decision defeat last November against Feargal McCrory, who recently lost in a title fight with Lamont Roach Jr.

Moton’s last appearance was a unanimous decision over Anthony Cuba that was more competitive than the shutout scorecards otherwise indicated. Moton vs. Cuba aired as part of the free preliminary broadcast underneath the Tim Tszyu-Sebastian Fundora pay-per-view.

I think there is value in nate diaz by stoppage here at 8-1....

10 rounds is a longggg fight, Diaz did ok vs jake paul who is bigger and more of a boxer. I dont see diaz just randomly getting chinned unless the weight cut really hurt him, and he has always been fit as a fiddle, so should still be punching late in the fight... I dont see nate as some banger, he isnt. but can nate throw enough to stopp masvidal in the back half of the fight? i think its very possible and at 8-1 i like it.

Fanmio ordered to pay Masvidal over $5M for '24 fight vs. Diaz

A Florida judge awarded UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal a default judgment of over $5 million in his lawsuit against online platform Fanmio, the company that promoted his 2024 boxing match against Nate Diaz.

Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez signed off on Masvidal's request to grant the judgement after an arbitrator awarded the former BMF champion $5,315,268.64 and additional post-judgment interest from the fight.

Masvidal sued Fanmio in January and stated that his deal for the Diaz fight was to include a purse of $6 million, plus an additional $1 million if he won the fight. Masvidal would lose the fight by decision and later claimed that his only payments were a $150,000 advance and a $1 million payment.

An arbitrator sided with Masvidal and with the final sign-off, this matter has been put to rest. However, Fanmio is still engaged in lawsuits with fighters.

Nate Diaz filed a lawsuit against Fanmio two weeks after the Masvidal, claiming he was owed over $9 million. An arbitrator awarded Diaz $6 million, along with attorney fees. That case is still awaiting a final sign-off.

In March, Fanmio filed a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia over a canceled exhibition match with Rukiya Anpo that was slated to take place on Dec. 31, 2024. Garcia opted to instead fight Rolando Romero in May.
