Found myself doing some random browsing -- ended up looking at Poland all-time P4P ratings.

Thought Adamek would be #1... forgot about Michalczewski.. he is #1, I am OK with that.

However, Adamek is #3..... and Eddie Ran? (52-59 record) is at #2.... Now Ran did have a horrible second-half of his career... but I can't see how he is above Adamek.

Checked the annual rankings in the Wiki. Can't find Eddie. Whereas Adamek can be found in three divisions, every year from 2005-2013.

Feels like there may be too much emphasis on wins "average_5_top_defeated_opponents", which obviously tilts the scales toward the older boxers, as they fought many more times than boxers of today... was not uncommon for a boxer getting a win over a good name because they fought several times. Then again, with Ran, that DQ win against Ceferino Garcia may really be helping his rating.

Anyway, that's my two cents.
Looks strange, I will look into that after my holidays in England and Scotland, in 6 weeks :-)
Hi Michael, yes Usyk would be #2 due to his only close win against meanwhile inferior rated Fury. But Usyk will be #1 due to an extended winner above loser rule based on his win against Joshua ...
hi Martin. How did it happen that Usyk, who won twice against Joshua, who won against Daniel Dubose, had a close rating with Joshua before the fight with Fury?

Ratings used to be recalculated daily GMT -- based upon the bouts entered into the database by BoxRec Editors since the last daily update.

But I now see from the since-edited Introduction section of the Ratings Description that they are instantly recalculated with each new bout entered into the database. True?

I believe there is a near-instant "approximate" re-calculation that affects the boxers directly involved in the bout.

Which also seems to mean we no longer have the "arrow" telling how much someone went up or down in the last day?

BoxRec should preserve a rankings snapshot for a month or so and show how much a fighter has gone up or down in the last 30 days, or 90 days even. People like seeing that stuff.

Why is Bam Rodríguez vs Juan Estrada a 4 star bout, when both fighters are rated 5 stars?

Estrada's last win against Gronzales gives him 5 stars by winner above loser. But his rating at that bout was only 4 stars.

Both boxers were 5 stars before & are now after the bout. The match itself was rated 5 before the fight. Bam wins by KO and all of a sudden, the bout is downgraded.

It doesn't make any sense.

Can you explain it more, please?

Estrada's last loss lowered his rating at time of his win against Gonzales. This rating is not corrected by the winner above loser rule
The winner above loser rule only corrects the current rating.

I don't understand this at all, I'm sorry. Maybe you can show me the numbers and changes before and after the Rodriguez-Estrada fight.

I don't understand what the star bout ratings are supposed to reflect or symbolize. How can 2, 5-star rated fighters produce a 4-star bout?

For every boxer BoxRec has a rating for the time of every of his bouts. This rating doesn't obey the winner above loser rule. So this rating may be lower for the winner than for the loser. All these ratings are always recalculated whenever a new or changed result of any boxer comes in.

Now you look at the bout Estrada vs Gonzales. Before Estrada's last bout against Rodriguez Estrada had a 5 star rating for that bout and Gonzales too. By losing against Rodriguez Estrada"s rating at the time of his Gonzales bout dropped a bit and he fell below the 5 star limit for that time. And so that bout fell below the 5 star limit too.

And all that happend while the current rating of Estrada still stood above the 5 star limit due to his win against higher rated Gonzales.

To summarize, Estrada is not actually, currently a 5 star fighter. He appears to be, because he gets an arbitrary boost in order to have a higher score than Gonzales.

Is this correct?

I see, thank you :salut:
So, is it possible for the rankings to reflect this with maybe an asterisk or different colored stars or something else?
Reflect that a fighter has more visible stars than what is actually true, I mean

Dear all,

I'm Alessio Bisutti, owner of FCC Promotion registered as box-pro, manager and Promoter with your estimated company  (see attached my boxrec).

Following the below email received from Mr. Grey, where he explained to me how to use "predict boxrec functionality" and how to determine the world rating, I'm surprised about my actual world position due to the fact that it is not respected as explained by Mr. Grey.

Let me explain better: my opponent, Panya Chomphoophuang (see attached his boxrec), is in a cruiser weight division, and I'm in a heavyweight division. We fought on July 13 in Pattaya, Thailand, for the WBC bridgerweight title, which is equal to the heavy weight title + 91 kg.

Mr. Grey, as reported in the email below, informed us that to calculate the prediction and the world rating, when the divisions of the two boxers are different, as in this case, we have to calculate the prediction using the page of the lighter boxer or division (in this case, Panya-Cruiser) and on the second box, the name of the heavier boxer (in this case, Bisutti-Heavy Weight).

If we calculate like he explained, my world position should be 81, but now it is 131 (before the fight I was 141 on world rating, so basically I got only 11 position on the world rating winning by ko that is incredible low.)  due to the fact that, for some reason, the world rating has been calculated by inserting the two boxers with the same division (heavyweight) using the predict functionality in my boxrec page (Bisutti first box and Panya second box).

I'm waiting for your kind answer even though on my last fight on 27 April 2024 (Naphat Ngoenbamrung - Cruiser division), the prediction was calculated correctly using the procedure above reported.

So please let me know if it is wrong how boxrec calculated the word rating this time 13 July 2024 or the previous fight on 27 April 2024.

Look forward to hearing from you and hoping to get my correct world rating.

Email received from Mr. GREY

Hello Alessio,

I have linked your Wikipedia page from our Wiki https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/Alessio_Bisutti.

Here is the response from our ratings editor:

"1) His rating was changed due to the new ratings version from 2024-04-09.

2) Saman Noori defeated 2 debutants, but one of them had a win later.

3) For calculations predict uses the division of the first boxer, if the divisions of the 2 boxers are different. Ratings and ranks are different in different divisions.

4) If he wants to see the predictions for Heavyweight and he is assigned to Heavyweight, just should just enter his name as first boxer."

Again, I would ask if you want to talk to him directly to please post in our forum: posting.php?mode=reply&t=249171

Thank you

Grey
