Juan Manuel Marquez vs Shawn Porter (2014)

Post by EdwardRevolver1993 »

The fight was briefly discussed back in 2014, as Marquez was looking to fulfill his dream and become a five-division champ. He targeted Porter and was going to attend Porter-Brook bout.

At the time, Porter was expected to win the Brook bout and the idea of Marquez' people was to lure Porter to Mexico and to stage the fight there. Porter's dad wasn't enthusiastic about going to Mexico and stated, that Porter-JMM bout belongs to MGM in Vegas.

Of course, the fight wasn't meant to happen as Porter lost to Brook and JMM retired shortly after.

But who would've won, had they fought? Could Marquez pull it off? I realized that I never really thought about this pairing before. Any thoughts on how it would've gone?

Marquez was pretty inactive by this point
Despite the SD result, bradley beat him clean in 2013

It's a good matchup at this point. Porter wasn't at his best yet - I think marquez eeks it out

With this being right on the heels of Marquez vs Bradley I'd favor Marquez here as I've always seen Shawn Porter as a lesser version of Tim Bradley to be honest. So Marquez would be coming into this fight with this style pretty well ingrained in his mind.

Plus as someone else mentioned. Porter still wasn't at his very best yet.
