Tyson Fury is new WBC mandatory; Wallin replaces Joshua in rankings,

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Otto Wallin replaces Anthony Joshua in WBC rankings, Tyson Fury is new mandatory

Tyson Fury is the leading heavyweight contender in the latest WBC rankings following confirmation that Anthony Joshua, the previous WBC mandatory, will challenge the IBF titlist Daniel Dubois in September.

Joshua has been removed from the ratings as per WBC policy regarding fighters competing for rival belts. Taking his place in the Top 15, at number 15, is Sweden’s Otto Wallin, who Joshua knocked out in December. Oleksandr Usyk is the WBC champion.

There is still no place for Joseph Parker because he holds the needless WBO interim title. Zhilei Zhang, who lost to Parker in March, is ranked third and Deontay Wilder, outpointed by Parker in December, is 14th.

Johnny Fisher enters for the first time following his recent 36-second knockout victory over Alen Babic. The Romford ticket-seller is rated at 38, but Babic keeps his place at bridgerweight, where he can be found at 15th.

do they automatically bin you from the rankings if you're challenging for another belt? If so has this always been a thing? Do the other sanctioning bodies do this?

I always had it as, if you held another orgs belt. then they bin you.

ot if you're challenging.. they should wait for the fight and not jus drop him.

They're just trying to justify Fury rematch? you cant be mandatory if you lost. but then thats the WBC.

cheers Ruthless. WBC is the most prestigious belt to the layperson but their shenanigans are utterly bonkers.
Didn't IBO do their rankings based on a proper points system? Surely there should be a methodology to it (I'm aware how naively idealistic I sound)

The positives of this is that the WBC won't be enforcing another mandatory anytime soon (as if they ever do anyway). Which means that Usyk can face Parker after Fury with little issues. WBA mandatory after that then unify the IBF again.

Its never going to change , we can all gripe and moan and bitch all we want , but its money and ego involved and where theres money involved along with ego , reason , fairness , and whats right go right out the window , Thers no shortage of other organizations trying to get there snouts in the trough , its all about percntage and , i'm the ABC champ , where everyones a winner , .

Promoters love to push a belt to sell tickets , organizations love to sell there name and belt for a percentage , and boxers love to get awarded belts which even they know are bollocks and rubbish , but everyones a winner , its only at the very top do we really see the farce of it all , , but lets have it right did 20,000 Ricky Hatton fans care that he held a pissweak allegedly belt for quite a while , did they buggery , they just knew there hero was a champ .

Only changes that may happen is one organization may fail to entice promoters to pay but they will find another one to take over . Its the boxers and promoters own fault after all the promoters put it on the fighters fight for them . What would happen if ALL promoters said no more were not having a WBC belt on and all fighters said i don't want that belt , you guessed it , the CEO of the WBC would give himself a raise , increase the directoirs dividends , and empty the bank account very quickly before it went bust , but not likely to happen is it , Because belts sell tickets .

Naaw has much has its shite , crap , bullshit and all the rest we call it , facts are there here to stay , Even Saudi money would'nt get rid , because even if King Tut Tut spent billions getting rid of them , a new promoter up in John O Groats would have his nephew fighting for a newly established world title to sell tickets

All true coneye.

Outside of a handful of hardcore fans, everyone involved has a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

On the flip side, the big fights still get made despite all the baloney that goes on. That's all that matters to me.

And even for the hardcore fans, the fact that there is a belt on the line means that the show sells better, TV buys the fight, the difference between a fight being made or not

Yes, very true Coco.

Belts on the line, preferably 'world title' belts, appeal to TV execs for obvious reasons.

As you say everyone, even hardcore fans, prefer to see a card headlined with a title fight. Especially if it is a legitimate one with pedigree like a British title rather than some inter-continental bauble that has no lineage and will immediately be discarded if the winner can get something better down the line.

It's a funny old game. No other top professional sport funtions in such a shambolic way but then no other sport is like boxing. One of the reasons we love it I suspect.

Hardcore fans couldn’t give a shit. I think you meant casual?

Tv execs and then promoters too would love to add ‘world title’ to their poster.

Don’t matter what is it. IBA even.

The point I am making is that while real fans want the fights not the titles, often these fights can't be made without titles, so the title is the necessary evil.
It's the title that generates the money

It’s a very fair point.
We (“real fans”) all think we know who reigns in each div.
But casuals buy too. A title sells.
I don’t like it but I get it.
End of day. These guys (fighters). getting paid and I got no problem with that. More power to them.

As an aside. Which non Org ranking system do we all think is pretty bang in? Might be a separate thread.
