Jake Paul vs Mike Perry set for July 20th

Mike Perry is 5-0 in bare knuckle boxing

With his much-reviled Mike Tyson showdown delayed to November while “Iron Mike’s” body desperately tries not to shatter into a million pieces, Jake Paul will meet MMA veteran turned bare knuckle star Mike Perry on their original July 20th date.

Perry (0-1 boxing, 14-8 MMA, 5-0 bare knuckle) enjoyed immediate viral fame in the UFC thanks to a mix of hellacious knockouts and a mental state best described as “two feet to the left of reality.” Before long, however, Perry’s technique deteriorated to the point where he lost seven of his last 10 with the promotion and parted ways following a 2021 decision defeat to Daniel Rodriguez.

A year later, Perry turned his attention to bare knuckle, which appears to have been his destiny all along. His current run has seen him upset vaunted striker Michael “Venom” Page, rearrange former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold’s teeth, beat down former Bellator and UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, and most recently stop Thiago Alves in 60 seconds last April.

He is, on paper, the most fearsome of Paul’s (9-1, 6 KO) MMA pulls. Though he competed at 170 in the Octagon, he’s fought more than once at the MMA middleweight limit of 185 pounds, so he shouldn’t be hugely smaller than Paul compared to the likes of Tyron Woodley.

Amanda Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KO), slated to rematch Katie Taylor on that November show, will stay busy against Stevie Morgan (14-1, 13 KO). Morgan’s streak of six consecutive first-round knockouts is undermined by the fact that four of her Colombian victims sport a combined 43 stoppage losses.

Tony Aguilar (12-0-1, 4 KO) also meets Corey Marksman (9-0-1, 7 KO) in a delayed rematch of their February draw.

Jake Paul vs Mike Perry undercard announced: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Ashton Sylve get new opponents

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s return and prospect Ashton “H2O” Sylve still highlight the July 20 undercard.

The undercard for Jake Paul’s fight against Mike Perry on July 20 has been announced. One fight from the original card on the date remains, but the others have been switched around.

Here’s a rundown of the card at this point:

As previously reported, Amanda Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KO) will take a 140 lb tune-up fight against Stevie Morgan (14-1, 13 KO), a 35-year-old Tampa local. This is meant to keep Serrano, 35, busy and in shape as she prepares to rematch Katie Taylor on Nov. 15, this time for Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight championship. In a way, this all may have worked out to Serrano’s advantage. She’ll have extra time to make sure she fights at 140 as best she can.

Ashton “H2O” Sylve (11-0, 9 KO) will face Lucas Bahdi (16-0, 14 KO) in a 10-round lightweight fight. The 20-year-old Sylve, who is MVP’s best prospect, was set to face top Golden Boy prospect Floyd Schofield on this date originally. This isn’t as good. Bahdi, 30, is a Canadian fighter who has fought at a club level, basically.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (53-6-1, 34 KO) is also still on the card, but will be facing a different ex-MMA opponent. Originally meant to face Darren Till, Chavez will now take on Uriah Hall (1-0 in boxing) in a six-rounder at cruiserweight. Chavez, 38, hasn’t fought since the end of 2021 and is long past whatever his prime really was. Hall, 39, made his pro boxing debut in Oct. 2022, beating former NFL star Le’Veon Bell when it turned out Bell isn’t good at boxing.

Shadasia Green (13-1, 11 KO) will look to bounce back from her first loss against Natasha Spence (8-4-2, 6 KO) in an eight-rounder at super middleweight. Green, 34, had her very limited skill set exposed by Franchon Crews-Dezurn last December. Spence, 38, is 0-2-1 in her last three, and has only had one fight since 2017.

The show will air on DAZN pay-per-view from Amalie Arena in Tampa. It’s obviously extremely top-heavy and the draw is going to be Jake Paul vs Mike Perry or nothing.

No. Perry will come to fight but he is a significantly smaller brawler who has previously relied on his grit rather than skills. He also defends with his face.

Sylve vs. Bahdi is exciting. Seems like a huge jump in quality of opposition for Sylve, who has been handed really careful til now. Bahdi was a top amateur, and has a world class trainer. I’m rooting for Bahdi.

Have seen nearly all of Bahdi's bouts. Bahdi kinds reminds me of a young Danny Garcia. Interesting match up of his style with H20's more aggressive/slashing type. Lucas Bahdi is a local kid from the Canadian side of the Falls and has a huge local following - we will all be pulling for him. Can't wait for this one tonight.

Looking into it a bit more I actualy like this fight..

Perry isn’t as small as I thought. I thought he was a 155lber in mma… he was but yearrrrrrrrs ago, went to 170 very early in his career, even missed 170 a couple of times.

In bare knuckle boxing he has been fighting at 185lb a bit..

Listed as 5”10 probably 5”9 , 196 lb tough as nails. That’s not a bad size.

He also boxed/trained boxing when he was young

He also boxed on triad boxing a few years ago, and he has been a backup fighter on 2 Jake Paul cards and a Logan Paul card, so would have been boxing in prep for them.

And importantly is only 32…

Will Perry get knocked… probably, but he is at least a punching mma guy now in a punching sport.

Add in Jake Paul having a genuine weight cut…

Just dabbled a 20 on mike Perry to win me 100.

Probably pissing money away, but eh.

Watched it a little after the fact last night. Perry was just kinda following Jake around the ring with his hands down, and his chin sticking up in the air. It's actually amazing it went 6 rounds. He was about as open a target as you're gonna find.

Perry probably won 1 round.. there was another close round somewhere in there. Basically got his ass kicked in the others.

I'm sure that Perry was at a ~20 pound weight disadvantage in the ring, which didn't help..

So, the BoxRec ratings have Paul at #106 at Cruiserweight. IBO has him at #97. Is that accurate? Who knows...

How far can the hype train go? This guy can afford the best trainers, equipment, drugs, etc... and he's only 27.

This wound up being a decent brawl slugfest.

Jake won, mainly because of his size advantage, Which he properly and effectively utilized.

I've been hearing about Andre Ward making a return to the ring very soon.

I've redd about him likely pursuing a bout versus Canelo, but also I've redd about him likely pursuing a bout versus Jake Paul, mostly because of revenue reasons obviously.

I think that a bout versus Jake Paul is far fetched, unless Ward would be okay about fighting at Cruiserweight, and giving up around 20 lbs.

Ward would likely weigh no more than 180 lbs if he fought Jake Paul.

I've already heard about Jake Paul wanting to fight another mma guy for his next bout.

Yep, absolutely no chance. Pereira batters him. Also the UFC wouldn't let him go. Pereira is a legit striker, not ancient, not undersized, not retired, no chinny. Doesn't fit Jake Paul's target opponents.

You can say what you like about Jake Paul, but he's brought in a lot of new interest to boxing from people who have never had anything to do with it before.

Most of his opponents, for a start.
