Be Truthful Please.

How many on here knew the answer to the million pound question that Tarrant asks the geezer that won it this week?

Who was the boxer that hit the gong at the beginning of all Rank Organization Films.

Bombadier Billy Wells.

I certainly didn't

When somebody told me it was a boxing question I felt sure I would know it. When he told me the question I honestly did not have a clue.

They once had a question for £125,000: Who was world heavyweight champion between 1978 and 1985? I have to admit, I squirmed at seeing it.

carl dane - circus strongman - was the original gonger for rank, he did it from 1932 - 1948.
every 3 years they had to to film him doing it again coz the film kept rotting away!
billy wells then took over.
but most rank films you'll see will be carl dane, so if the question was "who gonged on all the rank films" as you state it did then the question is wrong.

I knew that, my dad told me that when I was a kid.

He is of the age to know who Bombadier Billy Wells is but
there were quite a few people who banged the rank gong!

Yes, I knew it. He wasn't the only man to strike the gong for Rank...happened to read the obituary of another who died recently.

Then again, I quite like trivia.

Fvck me it seems as though pedantry is your hobby,,,maybe your old man should of sent you to law school. I did not say who gonged all the rank films. Read it again I said all the rank organisation films as Rank organisation was taken over and later became Top Rank. Is that OK with you? Or is there something else you want to correct? Wierdo

Billy Wells banging the gong is (I thought) a fairly well known piece of trivia to boxing fans.

Baz Deskins wouldn't have known it though. :P

Yes I heard about him on BBC radio on the world service channel. Quite an interesting character.

andy, the question posed was "who was the boxer who hit the gong on all rank organisation films?"

now, i dont watch the show meself so i can only take your word for it.
the question does not mention "top rank" or any take over bids, so therefore, as there were a number of gongers that did it, billy could not have done all the films. simple as that. i'm not having a pop at you but i understand that the programme often gets the questions a bit sloppy. this seems to be the case here.
