I've written about him before and yes he was a nasty piece of work.

There was one story( away from all the nasty dog fighting) about him running over a flamingo in a car park and pissing himself laughing whilst his two mates were finding it not so funny.

A pschiatrits’s version of an animal torturer is someone that would go to be a serial killer but I digress.

He was a devastating,clinical boxer which I liked about him.
However by the stories outside of the ring, he a nasty bugger and I didn't like that about him

Whether he deserves his current state I am unsure of.
I'm sure the animal kindom is happy about it though.

I'll back Sammy up here.

Citation is difficult but I've followed Geralds life/career for over about 12 years. I've read numerous articles about him in books and magazines. Even his buddies such as his trainer (94/95) journeyman heavyweight Stan Johnson paints him as a bit sadistic & nutty. He took a lot of glee in driving over & crushing a beautiful Flamingo. The rumours about his love of dog fighting ditto. He would even brag about this in his pre-fight interviews during his reign.

Pretty spooky character with his full faculties, but I'll agree its hard not to feel sorry for a guy in his current condition. He's harmless now & has my pity. But as someone else said, karma can come back & haunt ya.

I am not sure i understand most of what yo have written there erry. I guess that is why you are the philosopher and i'm not. However I do understand that the people who object the loudest to boxing are the medical proffession. The very people that NEVER willingly accept liability when they either turn relitavely healthy people into vegatables, or worse sometimes kill them.
With regard to your position on animals and their status in life. It seems a bit strange to me that we have recently had an outpouring of grief,,,on a Diana type scale over Steve Irwin dying. After all some of the most dangerous animals on the planet did not go looking for him did they?

Regardless, happiness is a human, reflective state, we don't know whether we are happy until we ask ourselves the question and then use our knowledge and memory of others definitions and our prior definitions before answering. For example you could be sat with a beer and a fag and say: "Damn I'm happy!" Yet if I sit with the same items I, as a non-smoker and non-drinker, would say: "No! I'm not happy." Give a dog a bone and he'll be content but it won't be a reflective state. If he sees another dog with a bone he will want the bone but he won't be 'happy' with it, if he sees yet another bone he'll go for that. It is an instinctive state.

A dog with a bone is content, they don't have reflective states, that is why they are not vegetarians.

I'm not saying one way or another, right or wrong, we can reflect on our state and say we are happy, the irony is that in reflecting on it we probably analyse it away.

Definition of happy, right from the dictionary:

delighted, pleased, or glad, as over a particular thing: to be happy to see a person.

Anybody who has had a dog can confirm without a doubt that their dog regularly exhibits enough of these definitions to qualify as able to feel happiness. One does not need a reflective state to feel pleasure or delight over a particular thing, be it the arrival home of their pack leader, the gift of a snack, or whatever. Feeling an emotion and reacting to it does not require a reflective state.

Stacy had a dog one time in the back yard and she had pups, when he came home she was eatting them as they cryed and screamed. She was a rotty. It upset Stacy so bad that something could eat its young that he threw bricks in there at her then turned up the doghouse so she had to sleep in there all night. Needless to say she didnt eat the next litter. So I would say as many medical professionals do, someone who eats or hurts there young are depressed. (She started drinking heavily, right after the second litter, we had to get her counseling)

I notice someone said Benn was allowed 30 seconds to recover from the first round KD. This is completely untrue: Benn climbed back into the ring (unaided) on the count of 9, and the referee waved the action on again at 20 (my timing and I'd invite anyone to try and provide evidence to the contrary). People do love to try and smudge these FACTS to try and make out McClellan had scored an uncounted first round KO... he didn't.

Btw, McClellan deserved nothing like what he got, for what he might have allegedly done.

I think if you look at the fight again you will see that from the time Benn goes through the ropes,,,,,and therefore is down,, until the time the action resumes a time of 28 seconds elapses. The point was the total incompetence of the non-english speaking referee.

I'm considering locking this as we have had many threads on this subject. I know the passions run deep here, but to me it generates much in the way of heat and little in the way of light.

Most of us get that if the alleged rumors are true...it is a bad thing.
We all know what happened to the G-man was a bad thing.
If he is not guilty of these atrocities then our judgement to condemn is another bad thing.
If he did do these things, well...bad things happened to him after the fact.

Is there any other angle to this at all? I'll let it go for now as it certainly pertains to boxing peripherals but if it devolves as it has in the past I think we'll just add it to the musuem pieces of locked threads.

I would have been on the side of this content of having been played out a long time ago as it has already run it's due course, with everyone who had something to say about it ampley making their point, but with things being a little slow around here lately with all of the Klitschko threads, maybe it's best to just leave threads like this drift away on their own.
