Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol | PPV - 12 October 2024
Don’t get me wrong, this is gonna be a fantastic night: a main event for the ages ( we hope ) with a lead up involving some of the best talent around being showcased.
just when it’s compared to that peerless American card with Bud Crawford recently, it doesn’t stack up.
But what the hell, this Turku guy is something else. Like a dream.

PPV is PPV whatever the country the bout is held in.samwbr wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 00:57If the reports are correct Jai earnt less for the Breidis fight than the Zorro fight. Him v CBS is big money on PPV in the UK and headline. CBS might see it as his last fight so wants to go out at home.
Or CBS has already earned so much that he wants to give the fans a homecoming?
Despite only ever boxing at home!!

Headline fight in Bournemouth, last hurrah, a huge night top of the bill. Opetaia is a proper undercard slot in Saudi, and currently suspended by the BBoC.Coco wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 04:48PPV is PPV whatever the country the bout is held in.

Boxing is a job, it's about earning, Saudi paydays are much bigger than elsewhere, hell even enough money for Fast Car and FW to work together.samwbr wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 07:49Headline fight in Bournemouth, last hurrah, a huge night top of the bill. PPV will be be bigger if the fight is made as most people won't be able to go
And are you saying the reason CBS wants the fight in the UK not Saudi is because Opetati currently has his British licence suspended????
Come on, seriously give me a good reason CBS turned the fight down?
The fight would have first been mentioned a couple of weeks ago, plenty of time to get in shape
Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol | PPV - 12 October 2024
Home advantage. He's talked about how important his fans are to him in the past. How much are they getting paid to fight in the UK on a big PPV show as headline rather than fourth or fifth on the bill in Saudi? Opetaias last 2 purses are public knowledge btw.Coco wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 07:59Boxing is a job, it's about earning, Saudi paydays are much bigger than elsewhere, hell even enough money for Fast Car and FW to work together.

Where else is CBS earning over 100k? He would earn a minimum of 7-800k for a unification in Saudi, probably a million.samwbr wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 08:05Home advantage. The Australian has been earning half a million for fighting British area title holders

I'm going to quote Boxing News (as it's in front of me):
Alalshikh has reportedly made a seven-figure offer for Opetaia and CBS to unify on the undercard of Beterbiev and Bicol on October 12th.
CBS told BN "I think they wanted in on October 12th and I'm not going to shorten my camp for anyone" and "Ideally, we'd want the Opetaia fight, but if he can only do October 12th and I can only do November/December then it's not going to happen".

Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol | PPV - 12 October 2024
As it stand this card needs at least one more big fight to make it a great one.
The main event is immense. For me this is one of the best fights for decades. Two unbeaten fighters, undisputed, Beterbiev knocking all his opponents out, just destroyed Smith, Bivol, younger, faster, just schooled Canelo like nobody's business. This a great fight
On the undercard Clarke v Wardley is great and I quite like the Stephenson v Cordina fight.
The rest is standard fare.. Womens boxing is of zero interest to me, especially when the two fighters have virtually no stoppages.
Obviously with that main event the card overall is quality, but they were gonna put this main event on the 5 v 5 card and that undercard was way better than this.
If they had put Eubank in with someone decent then fair enough, but this bloke he's in with is miles off the mark.
If they could bring in another heavyweight fight like Johnny Fisher are Itamou against some half decent test it would raise it significantly

It's arguably the biggest fight in the division so would not rule it out given what they done before on skymaverick23 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 15:12No chance CBS/Opetaia is a U.K. PPV headliner in the current climate.

It would do less than 100k buys. We’re in a completely different era now re: PPV in the U.K. It needs a name to do even semi decent numbers and even then it’s not easy given how easy it is for people to stream. CBS isn’t a big enough name to headline a PPV regardless of the opponent.samwbr wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 16:29It's arguably the biggest fight in the division so would not rule it out given what they done before on skymaverick23 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 15:12No chance CBS/Opetaia is a U.K. PPV headliner in the current climate.

I don’t believe the CBS numbers. It would help explain why Boxxer struggling to/can’t afford to put on many shows though!

I guess he is selling out stadiums… must have been a decent gate at Bournemouth.maverick23 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2024, 16:57I don’t believe the CBS numbers. It would help explain why Boxxer struggling to/can’t afford to put on many shows though!
Re: Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol | PPV - 12 October 2024
Okalie fight got 15,000 attendance, approx a 750k gate
The fight at Crystal Palace did similar numbers, but as champ CBS would have had a bigger split of the purse.
As I said Jai was earning far more in Saudi for non title affairs v British area champs.
Says to me someone likes cycling

Had Opetaia-CBS taken place on this bill, it presumably would have been chief support, not buried down the bill, and they would have been paid accordingly,
It's not a great look for CBS to turn this one down.

Or Opetaia knocks Massey in to orbit with another highlight reel and it hypes the fight even more.

This doesn't even need an undercard. A brilliant match up in any era.
