‘We’ll know more early October’: Eddie Hearn hopes to see upcoming end to Conor Benn’s UK ban

The Matchroom promoter is still loving the idea of Benn vs Eubank at Tottenham Hotspur or Wembley.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is looking to see the UK ban of Conor Benn to come to an end in the next month or so as Benn’s lawyers are engaged in talks with UK Anti-Doping as well as the British Boxing Board of Control. Benn had his license suspended over a failed drug test and although he continues to deny that he knowingly took any banned substance, he’s had to deal with the repercussions anyway.

Benn hasn’t had a firm resolution on UK soil to date, but he’s since fought twice outside of the country in an attempt to keep his career from being completely frozen while he’s been entangled with the British authorities. That, according to Hearn, is a big deal because Benn is apparently quite the draw in the UK.

“Conor Benn’s return is going to be massive because when you talk about profile, outside AJ [Joshua] and Fury, Conor Benn’s profile is bigger than all of them.

“We’ll know more early October how that will play out. We’ve had a lot of questions asking why doesn’t he just take a two-year ban — the test was in June 2022. But to Conor’s detriment he’s never wanted to concede a ban because he believes in his innocence. He’s never wanted to do a deal, and it has cost him time.”

Hearn continues to beat the drum on a proposed fight between Benn and Chris Eubank Jr, with both of the respective fathers having fought one another in big shows back in the early 1990s. In that respect Hearn is intent on delivering the next generation of that fight, even despite the size difference between the two.

Benn last fought in the ring this past February in Las Vegas, outpointing little known Peter Dobson in a 12 round decision.

so far we've gone through faulty testing, dodgy eggs, and dodgy clomiphene-loving genetics. The truth must be out there, somewhere...

Can we just end this whole saga now?

Has anybody got Kid Galahad's brother's phone number or address?

It would take a lot of press conference smack talk and chair throwing to generate anywhere near the interest it once had.

Benn and Haney tweeting each other tonight and Haney said he deal with him when he’s off his suspension. So sounds like Benn might be banned and it’s being hushed up,

Will definitely happen. By a huge margin it represents Hearns best chance of clawing back the money he has invested in Benn to date.
Suspect once he has that he’ll be happy to throw Benn to the wolves with something like an Ennis fight.

Just see the clip of him confronting Eubank out in Saudi. I don’t think there is a boxer I have ever disliked more than Conor Benn. He comes across as a right arrogant Cvmt

I'm completely with you - he's clearly learnt nothing despite his claims earlier this year. By contrast I thought Eubank handled it perfectly, showing way more maturity than the angry, entitled boy facing him.

Do you think he's already been issued with it, and serving it silently?

I'm pretty certain that he's not, otherwise Eddie would have a date.

I wonder if they will add to his ban the time he was active from 23/9/23 to 3/2/24? He is two years after the Eubank fight.

He’s been calling out pretty much everyone.
Eddie has Boots now doesn’t he?. (Who has also been called out by Benn) Pretty sure they would do crazy numbers for a two round max shellacking.

Conor is going to kick Eubank Jr arse tomorrow night after Jr has fought.

Poor rich guys kid, cannot get an identity of his own so is gatecrashing the Eubank fight to create media.

I'm going to say this straight as it is.

Conor Benn isn't English Belt class, as far as I'm concerned he's no better than area title.

Any ranking body that has him rated top 10 in the world are knobs, and it shows the state of boxing rankings. I have no idea what Boxrec ranks him at as I've never looked, but he should not be in the top 5 in the UK at the very best.

He ain't no Nigel Benn and soon as he realises that the fornicating better.
