Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga official for September 14th on Prime and DAZN PPV
Erislandy Lara faces Danny Garcia in the co-feature
As expected, Canelo Alvarez’s next title defense will see him face WBA mandatory challenger Edgar Berlanga in the main event of a September 14th Prime/DAZN PPV.
The co-feature sees WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (30-3-3, 18 KO) face Danny Garcia (37-3, 21 KO) in a fight that’s been on the table for several years. Lara was last seen smoking mandatory challenger Michael Zerafa in March, making 2024 his first multi-fight year since 2019, while Garcia hasn’t fought at all since beating a hobbled Jose Benavidez Jr in his 2022 super welterweight debut.
That effort somehow earned Garcia the no. 11 spot in the WBA’s middleweight rankings.
“My fight with Danny García will be a classic battle between two legendary fighters of our era,” said Lara. “We’ve both faced the best, have impressive resumes and have competed at the top level for a long time. I’m excited for this fight. I encourage all my Mexican fans to tune in on Mexican Independence Day, bring your flags and support this great event. I will represent not only Cuba, but also Mexico on this day against Puerto Rico. To everyone watching at T-Mobile Arena and on the pay-per-view on Prime Video, you will witness greatness in the ring throughout the action-packed night of boxing. I look forward to putting on a show and being the first to knock out Danny García. This will be an epic showdown!”
“This is a legacy fight and an opportunity to win a championship in my third weight class,” said García. “Lara is a great champion who’s been around for a while, but so have I. On Sept. 14, I’m bringing the Danny García show to Las Vegas and making it a historic night.”

It says something about what a clownshow alphabet beltholder Lara is that a 36-year-old, long-ago ex-lt. ww and ww beltholder who has fought once in four years is by far the toughest opponent Lara will have faced as a middleweight "champion" in the three years he's held his alphabet clownbelt

Probably the worst time to hype this fight
Let it go a couple of weeks, it's summer everyone's kicking back

42 y/o Golovkin would crush the champions of this mw division.

Re: Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia | PBC - September 14, 2024
He would. Somebody legit needs to take charge of the division because I have been following it for more than 50 years and it’s crappier now than I have ever seen it, by a lot. Maybe some hot young fighters will come along and change that. Lara’s clown belt reign is everything wrong with the four (or five) belt per division eraapollo creed wrote: ↑17 Aug 2024, 06:52 42 y/o Golovkin would crush the champions of this mw division.![]()

I think PBC coddles the nest eggs for Jermell, with Adames and Lara holding the big belts.giacomino wrote: ↑17 Aug 2024, 21:45He would. Re: Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia | PBC - September 14, 2024
Garcia on what kind of performance we can expect to see after his long layoff
“You can expect to see the same Danny Garcia. I feel good, I been feeling good sparring, been feeling good training. I really feel like nothing’s really changed, if anything the two-year layoff helped me. You know, my body feels recovered, I have no injuries, my mind feels good, my body feels good so I feel like we’re going to see a great Danny Garcia that night.”
On how he anticipates dealing with Lara’s style
“He’s definitely a tricky fighter, he’s one of the best boxers you can get in the ring with, skill wise. I got my work cut out for me but we’re training, I got the right game plan, we’re going to go in there and execute.”
On moving up to 160 after one fight at 154
“Going into that Benavidez fight, actually before that fight I think Lara came up in the conversation when I was speaking to my team and I said ‘look, let me get this Benavidez fight to test the water at 154’ and then I think Lara agreed to fight me at 155 but two years went past and — the fight was always agreed to it just took time because, I guess, the Showtime thing...”
On if Lara being 41 will help him overcome the move up in weight
“Yeah, definitely. I know if I feel the pain — I know I’m 36 — he definitely got to feel the pain at 41, waking up all sore. But I feel good. I feel rejuvenated, I feel like I haven’t lost a step really. I’m in here sparring with the young guys, veterans, everyone.”

ERISLANDY LARA: "DANNY GARCIA BETTER BE READY ON SEPT. 14TH"
Here is what Lara had to say Tuesday from the Pound 4 Pound Gym in Las Vegas:
“I would tell Danny Garcia to be ready. He was a great champion for sure, but now he’s in my division and I’m going to show him that this is something completely different.
“I don’t know how the weight will affect Danny, because it depends how he’s prepared for this fight. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. He better come ready, because this is gonna be new for him.
“I do everything I have to do to stay disciplined and take care of my body. As long as I keep doing that, I’m going to stay at this top level.
“I’m very thankful that I made the sacrifices that I had to in order to reach these heights. I’m reaping the rewards now and I’m going to keep going.”

Surprised the board have their 60-40. I thought Lara would be a clearer favourite maybe 80-20

ERISLANDY LARA
“Motivation is easy for me because I just think about my family and everyone who I fight for. It makes me want to get up and go work hard every day.
“Danny is a great fighter and a champion at lower weight classes, but middleweight is a different beast. We’re gonna have to see if he can adapt to this different weight.
“I don’t know whether he can stand the power of my punches. We’ll find out Saturday. I’m just focused on being ready mentally and physically to do anything it takes to win.
“I’m really not worrying too much about any weight or height advantage, I’m just focused on going in there and being at my best.
“We’re going to keep defending this title and keep looking for the biggest and best fights.”
DANNY GARCIA
“It’s been a hard training camp and now it’s time to go in there and take that belt. The hard work is done and now we’re ready to get in there on Saturday night.
“To me, I feel like I’m already a Hall of Famer, but I think winning this belt is the icing on the cake. Winning in three divisions is about legacy, not many fighters do that. I’m chasing greatness.
“Lara has been around a long time just like me and we’re two battle-tested warriors. I know what I’m up against and I prepared for that. I’m here to show the world that I’m the better man.
“It means the world to have my father in my corner. Anyone can train you, but having a spiritual connection with your trainer can take you to a different level. That’s what gives us a special bond. When no one believed, we believed.
“People have tried to tell me I was too small my whole career. I was naturally a big guy who squeezed down in weight. To me, I’m a natural middleweight. This is my weight and this is where I feel good. If you don’t believe me, you gotta watch.
“This never gets old, but I definitely remember being here 11 years ago fighting Lucas Matthysse on the Mayweather vs. Canelo undercard and people said I’d steal the show then too. It’s really just another day of hard work for me.”

Lara -245 Garcia +185. I'm going with Garcia on this one. Lara hasn't fought anyone since canelo but bums. Garcia has a far better resume. I could see Garcia probably even knocking Lara down in this fight.

Jesus what a shit fight
Re: Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia | PBC - September 14, 2024
I have takei garcia and Dubois on a 3 team parlay. 25 to win 375. 15-1. Longshot. But hell I believe garcia is gonna show us his will. Garcia is not the man who backs down and come back from adversity. Anything can happen in the boxing world. Lara had to cut weight. Garcia was comfortable with his weight. Shit like that matters. Devin haney opponent comes in 2 5 lbs heavier. He loses. Why weight? Salido vs vasyl. overweight. Lara last 4 fights at 160. Comes in 3 lbs lighter. I think garcia might just ko his ass.
