They could've met in a WBC/WBA/IBF unification back in 2003-2004. Which, by that time, would've been the undisputed title fight at 168lbs. Beyer was the WBC champ, Ottke unified WBA/IBF belts against Byron Mitchell.
From what I've found, this fight was briefly discussed around the aforementioned time period. But Beyer and Ottke were friends and they openly stated they won't fight each other. Plus, they both trained under Ully Wegner.
Anyway, had they met, who would've won? I guess, that would've been a mega event in Germany and would've made the list of Sauerland's greatest hits.

Re: Sven Ottke vs Markus Beyer
dear gawd, can you imagine how utterly awful this would be to watch? two pillow punching buddies who specialized in being able to move backwards better than opponents could move forwards
i think sven was a bit better in general, but my mind cant even begin to do a more in depth analysis of how they'd match up

Re: Sven Ottke vs Markus Beyer
Ottke would win almost all the rounds by landing a couple of jabs. But how would the judges know which German to give it to? My guess would be a draw
