Don Cockell's height is wrong

Post by scorpio83 »

Hello Wouter,

Rocky Marciano stood 5'10 1/2" right? Well, his opponent Don Cockell listed at 5'11" according to this website, but I looked at the picture, Marciano stood slightly taller than Cockell who stood at actually 5'10". Could you please change Cockell's height to 5'10"?

His brother said Rocky was only around 5'9", I think heights of most fighters are exaggerated. It can be hard to tell depending on footwear worn by both in the photo, angle of photo, if one of them is slightly slouching, leaning to one side, sometimes their hair, if one person is standing slightly in front of the other person etc. Almost every male claims to be taller than they really are, most tend to round their heights up rather than down. I think Marciano's very short reach points to him being shorter than his claimed height, especially when you look at photos of him standing next to other people.

For what it's worth as they are often made up stats but there is a tale of the tape poster of their fight and Marciano is listed as 5'11" and Cockell as 5'10"

At his court marshal, Marciano testified that he was 5'10.5". It was common practice in the army at that time to measure a soldier with his shoes on- the thinking was that a man does his job while wearing shoes.
