Gerry Cooney...............Net Worth
According to the internet Gerry Cooney is only worth 3 million dollars. Isn't this a low estimate? He had several major bouts.

He's kept his wits about him as he has aged...so it's probably accurate or even a bit shy of the mark.
Re: Gerry Cooney...............Net Worth
$3M is not bad. I hope he has more.

Re: Gerry Cooney...............Net Worth
Cooney has plenty of money. Promoter Scott Murray brought him over to the UK quite recently and Cooney confirmed to the audience that he is a wealthy man. In fact, he earned too much money in his fighting days and never developed properly. He picked up a million dollars for blowing away Ken Norton in May 1981, after which he needed two or three workouts against proven stayers before taking on someone like Larry Holmes. Leroy Caldwell makes sense as an opponent, as do Tex Cobb and Ibar Arrington. Instead, his managers (the Wacko twins) wasted time counting their money and chasing Mike Weaver. Cooney sat on the sidelines for 13 months prior to Holmes in June 1982, which is ludicrous and a real waste of talent. It was the same before the Spinks and Foreman fights: too much money, too much inactivity.

If any Boxers got a decent amount of money still, its probably due to their caring wife.
Re: Gerry Cooney...............Net Worth
This is exactly right. Everyone made money. And Gerry’s development was stunted by his management team. All I’ll add is that this scenario also ruined his confidence. He realized he was being sheltered and kept from fighting tough opposition. When a fighter realizes his management is apprehensive about putting him in tough , he asks himself why. As far as money goes, I think he’s ok. Doesn’t drink or carry on anymore so that saves quite a bit of money as well as drama.bennie wrote: ↑25 Sep 2024, 05:00 Cooney has plenty of money. yeah, it was when he 'heard it thru the grapevine" that his managers didn't want him fighting
Marvin Stinson. That was when the doubt must have crept into his mind.

Re: Gerry Cooney...............Net Worth
Stinson ranks as an ideal opponent for Cooney so I can't understand why the Wacko twins felt the need to avoid him. Maybe Jim Watt's victory over Howard Davis affected their judgement. They managed Davis and were convinced he would lick Watt for the WBC lightweight title, but they were wrong.Caractacus wrote: ↑26 Sep 2024, 18:25 yeah, it was when he 'heard it thru the grapevine" that his managers didn't want him fighting
