I've never understood this leading right uppercut punch from the back foot he works on. Surely that's a punch for in close? It's what he went for before getting clocked for the final time on Saturday.

Jesus I have not seen that before - talk about telegraphing. He absolutely wings it - that extensive drop low for that extra leverage is shocking - let alone the obvious thing he does with his feet and his little head movement (dip to the right) just prior to throwing it.

I remember Holyfield highlighting how Tyson telegraphs his hooks and he countered every time in fight 1, except for in round 1 when Tyson actually dipped to his left and then threw a right which flummoxed Holyfield (and hurt him). Joshua though has so many "ticks" when he is throwing that show and that show is unbelievably telegraphed anyway.

I can't believe AJ was primed to stand up straight, chin up and hands down.

Maybe the occasion got to him, more likely it was because he got punched in the head hard.

Absolutely and my reaction when I saw that (Joshua) for the first time today was similar to the guys taking the piss out of the "look at the uppercut".

Jesus, this guy was two time heavyweight champion and throws punches like that. No wonder, DDD who lets be honest has never looked like a master boxer and was schooled by Usyk, actually looked like a master boxer on Saturday.

Don't mean for it to be a "criticise AJ and not praise DDD" post, but I was thinking how was DDD so easily countered and couldn't land clean much against Usyk but looked like Mayweather vs AJ - its levels and yes, those uppercuts are not much better defensive technique wise as those "uncoordinated guys". Its like he is punching one of those arcade punching machines - its that telegraphed.

I'm not sure changing trainers this late into his career will make any difference, I think when the going gets tough you revert to type and all the "new" skills go out the window.

Joshua hadn't fought as badly as he did last weekend - and Boxercises instructions of "roll the dice and uppercut" certainly made a difference this late in his career.

Shane McGuigan is a good call with his knowledge of Dubois.

I might be in the minority but I don’t think rolling the dice was the worst advice. He had Been down, hurt and out on his feet previous, by rolling the dice they meant let your hands go and that was the first success he had in the fight. It’s not Ben Davison’ fault that he threw a right uppercut with his left hand by his waist and chin in the air that’s on the boxer.

well with all things AJ its an unknown .
He isnt just another boxer - its all the other stuff and the income from sponsors etc that is being taken into account .
I have always said there are too many people involved in his set up all having input - but they would say thats how he has got so rich .

My thoughts exactly. I can't go throwing uppercuts from the back of the hall and expect to stay upright. Especially not at heavyweight
