Benn is a drug cheat, and has got what he deserves
Off topic, but do you have the same distain for all drug cheats? Or did Benn get on your nerves before that?
He didn't get on my nerves and I have given a bit of a pass to other fighters who a drug suspects with a cloud over their name.

I watched the first Peynard fight, it was such a good one and Benn showed real courage and heart.

After that he dramatically improved, got caught cheating, and it is much more his attitude after that which has annoyed me.

However I would have no bones with fighters or any other sport men getting banned for cheating if due process is taken

Gareth A by several hectares.

You can imagine him thinking he's a renaissance man because he's got both Glen Matlock and Cass Pennant in his contacts.

Yep. There's plenty more than 3, but I guess the biggest 3 would be (in no particular order) John Fury, Tyson Fury, and Steve Bunce.

Anthony Joshua for his meltdowns, especially after the Uysk fight. Deplorable behaviour.

Chris Eubank Jr after his recent slagging off of the two biggest promoters like a guy who doesn't want to fight again.

Billy Joe Saunders, where do you start with this numptie?

Some good choices here

My comments:
1. Technically McGregor has boxed though obv is not his main sport
2. I don’t think Tommy is an idiot. He’s pretty likeable apart from cheating on his woman. Also he knows his place in boxing and at least is honest about it rather than his deluded father.
3. There is something very creepy and odd about Dominic Ingle, but I wouldn’t say he’s an idiot
4. Ben Whitttaker is a tool and highly sensitive to criticism oddly. But he’s a entertaining boxer though he’ll get found out spectacularly I’m certain.
5. Fish eyes - CEJr is right. He’s ripped off many fighters (not just Joe loads of other lesser known fighters) and is so prickly. But he has given us good fights.

So my 3 are:

1. GAD - ‘Francesca Hennessy is the Lomachenko of female boxing’ and ‘Ebanie Bridges is the Muhammad Ali of female boxing’
2. Steve Bunce - so full of himself. His melodramatic high pitched outbursts are cringe and he always uses the same phrases (in BN too) “Let’s get this straight!” “Make no mistake” “Trust me”…. He used to always sign off with Adios but thankfully stopped that.
3. Spencer Fearon - should be number 1 but so irrelevant in boxing have to put him at 3. Why does he get so much airtime? He’s failed at everything he’s done and seems to know little about boxing. Seems to get his face everywhere -why? He’s obnoxious, opinionated yet ignorant and exceptionally biased. Absolutely zero integrity. Remember when he said very boxing fan should have a photo of DK in their house?

Didn’t know about the more recent incidents. But he got off this one even though he incompetently represented himself….. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/c ... 21127.html

It smells very much like, he’s cut a deal and is an MI5 asset now…..

Agreed. I like Bunce, he plays the game in terms of his employer's fighters, but he's knowledgeable and tells great stories. I really enjoyed him when he was a regular guest on Colin Murray's Talk Sport show back in the day.

I don't like saying anyone who loves the sport of boxing is an idiot - especially as I do not know them.

But.

Anthony Small - great shout - for what he has done beyond boxing.
Spencer Fearon - anyone who calls themselves "the knowledge"
John Fury - brings the sport into disrepute time and time again, was once funny but now its gone beyond.

I will also add though. Not a boxing figure per se but - British boxing fans who continue to line the pockets of promoters through paying all the subs and PPVs making the sport unaffordable to many.

Bunce has done good for the game and I do not know him, must say though the way he treated boxing forum fans (I think he was the originator of the Anorak phrase) wasn't nice. Full of the praises of the forums when it was "Bring back bunce" and he even did a tour - when he got back a regular gig - was quick to slag forums off again.

I think Fury, Fearon and Small are worthy winners, but then Small wasn't using boxing as a vehicle for his views.

I was going to add - any british boxing fan who uses their hard earned cash to pay the money of figures who has brought the game into disrepute and also committed terrible - because they are "legends". These people are not role models yet there are boxing fans who will pay lots of money to them.

I'm talking about attendees of the "legend" that is John Fury's tours - the guy has done time for terrible acts and continues to bring the game into disrepute.

Similarly Mike Tyson fans and people who pay his way. I admire Mike Tyson's skills - would I give money to Mike Tyson the person - no.

People in the "real world" who have done the criminal acts that the likes of Fury and Tyson (and others) have done often do NOT get a second chance in life - will never get the chance to rehabilite, find jobs etc because of their past. Guys like Tyson and John Fury are multi millionaires (again) because in Tyson's case he was once a good boxer and in John Fury's case - well I am not sure.

I really like Bunce's writing, and bought his "big book of British boxing" (may not have been called this!) and really enjoyed it. He loves the sport and his knowledge of the domestic scene is very good.

However, he did himself no favours on here all those years ago. If memory serves he flipped out over a fairly innoculous post about a 1970s George Foreman fight, never to return.

Adios indeed.

Has anyone read any of Bunce’s books? He’s been around for years and must have some good stories, but I’m just not sure I could read one…. Would just read it in his voice and would probably throw it in the fire…..
