Will Ike Ever Fight Again? ( WIEFA )

Post by HeavyHitters »

Will Ikemefula ( Ike ) Ibeabuchi ( 20-0-0 / 15 KOs ) ever fight again professionally? His last fight was against Chris Byrd on March 20th, 1999, resulting in a TKO victory for Ike in the 5th round. Ike has been periodically posting shorts on YouTube claiming to be in shape and ready to fight again. He also will posts short videos here and there, commenting on recent heavyweight fights. I believe he is in his 50's ( 51 - DOB: February 2nd, 1973 ), so I doubt he will ever fight again myself, but you never know.

Also, leave your comments and thoughts on how Ike would have faired against some of todays top heavyweights.

Except for Fury and Usyk, I'd take Ike to beat anybody else today. Bakole would be epic.

Put him in the ring today with Dubois or Bakole. I would love to see him beat severely

He's 51 and not boxed for 25 years. I'm pretty confident it's a no and if he did he'd get flattened by anyone half decent.

Ibeabuchi abducted the 15-year-old son of his former girlfriend and slammed his car into a concrete pillar on Interstate 35 north of Austin, Texas. According to the criminal complaint, the boy suffered 'numerous injuries' from the accident 'and will never walk normally again'. The courts concluded Ibeabuchi was trying to commit suicide.

I'm talking about a prime Ike. Today, he shouldn't box.

Exactly, good to read some reasoning and not fantasy.
He gets annihilated by anyone with a decent pulse

Rydell Booker is about ten years younger than Ibeabuchi, had less than half of the lay-off and came back as essentially a journeyman/name to go on a prospect’s record. Ibeabuchi would do well to get anywhere near matching that level…

I still look at that epic Heavyweight fight with David Tua, what a slugfest absolute war, you know there is approx 1200 -1300 active heavyweights , and there is no way known he would be the worst, personally a fight with Ngannou would be something to see, if he couldnt beat Ngannou he would be better giving it away,

Gen z won't have a clue who he was. He's a footnote alongside children's TV presenters from the 70's

If anyone below 40 knew who he was, he would likely already have fought Jake Paul or on a Jake Paul card.

This guy is really mythologised on YouTube.

Just because he was good and won an epic fight against Tua the best part of 30 years ago and can hit tyres and giant speed bag at 51, the commentators deduce that he should come back!

It's as if the concept of ageing doesn't exist in their world and he can just pick up where he left off in 1999.

Ibeabuchi could not even beat Jake Paul now, let alone a top 30 heavyweight today.

I just want to see him knocked out after a severe beating. If anyone deserves a beating it is Ike

And that’s after his 15 year stint (including 2 years in mental facility) for battery and sexual assault on the women he was found guilty on. There was a few others that his defence had thrown out ….

I guess when you’re a boxing fan you have to accept some of those competing have had troubled upbringings, colourful pasts and in some cases remain capable and could be involved in crime.

I guess When you take away the nice suits, the belts and the boxing Bernard Hopkins is still a boy from a housing project in Philadelphia

Says he’s fighting in Nigeria soon

https://www.BS.com/ike-ibeabuc ... er--186860

Released again in September 2020, the now 51-year-old is slated to fight at the Diete Spiff, Civic Center in Port Harcourt in Nigeria on December 7. In the opposite corner will be Egyptian Ayman Farouk Abbas, who is 4-10-1 (1 KO), who has spent most of his career fighting in Cairo where, in 2023, he climbed off the floor to draw with Christopher Lovejoy. They are scheduled to meet over six rounds.

Any news on the upcoming Dec 7 fight? Last I heard Ike was saying the fight might not happen because he wasn't getting an advance to train.

That's good question.

I have searched on various sites and there is nothing to say that he has had a fight.

The latest stuff about him seems to be about a month old on average.

I seen a video on YouTube from a Ben Wilson I believe saying Ike's fight is rescheduled for Dec 14th and they were hoping someone would stream it. He said something like the postponement was due to fighters still being in transit. Not sure if this is accurate but thought I would post it.

The President lost his first fight to a 45 year old that started boxing at 36!
