Still a showman. And we believed him that he was going to be heavyweight champion for the 4th time. It was the end of the innocence, I guess.

The People's Champion! I wish that I could have met him in his prime. No security guards around him. He is walking the streets without a care in the world. That's why the people loved him. There would never be another Muhammad Ali in our lifetime.

Timeline-Ali had returned to boxing in February 1980 to fight John Tate for the WBA HW belt in June 1980, but this happened in the meantime.

Weaver proved that his performance against Larry Holmes in June 1979 was no fluke when he faced Tate in March 1980 in Tate's home city of Knoxville. The bookies made Weaver a 4/1 underdog but he pulled it out in the 15th and final round with a big left hook. Sadly, Tate ran into Trevor Berbick in his next fight, when Berbick was unknown, and was knocked out again.
