15 Rounds WBA Super Welterweight Title
McCallum would dominate Duran behind his long jabs and counters on the body and head to take a decision if McCallum fought the Duran who beat Davey Moore in 1983. However, had Duran defended his WBA Super Welterweight or Junior Middleweight title against McCallum rather than facing Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns who his WBC Super Welterweight title, the Bodysnatcher would overwhelm the Hand of Stones and stopping him late. What do you guys think and who do you got?
Mike McCallum vs. Roberto Duran
Re: Mike McCallum vs. Roberto Duran
Did you know that if MCCalum had won the first Kalambay bout, he was contractually obliged to fight Duran ?

Re: Mike McCallum vs. Roberto Duran
Mike McCallum was as skilled and great as the 4 or 5 Kings if you want to include the great Wilfred Benitez.
He just didn't had the opportunity nor the time to showcase his skills against them.
At this weight class, 154lbs, he beats probably 4 of the five. I would not be surprised if he would have beaten Marvelous, either. He was that great of a fighter. A great fighter that didn't get the proper credit that he deserved.

Agree. Mike McCallum was also in his complete prime. Roberto Duran after the No Mas, you didn't know what Duran you was going to see in the ring. He had highs and lows like the ocean waves.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 22:51 Mccallum beats him. Duran was abive his best in age and weight here
Re: Mike McCallum vs. Roberto Duran
McCallum wins. The naturally bigger and stronger guy. Duran is good enough that he's going to give him a tough go of it, and I believe he'd last the distance too, but McCallum wins probably 9 rounds to 6 in a good, competitive fight.
