Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
Bivol deserved a close decision but not a robbery, I gues...
Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
cant really go with a robbery as it was very close with each guy nullifying the other but in a different way.
personally I preferred the way bivol went about and would give it to him by a round or two no more .
cant remember last time I saw a fight where there was basically no holding until was it the 10th or 11th when they were both needing to rest and reset .
a draw would have been respectable or a win by either but without that stupid retarded 116 - 112 scorecard which was just insulting .
imagine if it had been the other way around ????

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
The problem for Bivol was that he just couldn't assert himself. It was jabbing and moving and then countering Beterbiev but no real offensive front foot action. It's hard to say a lad was robbed when hes not taking the initiative. He had success a few times on the front foot throwing combos but I recall him getting stunned by a counter at one point and perhaps he decided it wasn't worth the risk.
Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
I had Beter winning
Looking at the punch stats, what landed was very similar.
Bivol landed a few more overall, Beter landed more power shots
Beter threw a lot more

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
While a wide score seems wrong as it was damn close, the judges have to score things round by round.
If you are edging those rounds to Beter 116-112 it's quite a reasonable score, same the other way.

is there a collection of boxers and pundits reactions to this fight, like we have for predictions? would be interesting to see who thought Bivol won it

Yep, as per usual it seems most of the people complaining of a 'robbery' weren't scoring round by round. On the live RBR thread last night, pretty much all of us had it super super tight, either a draw or 115-113, and we were all saying throughout how razor-close most of the rounds were. So it's really not hard to see how a judge could simply prefer the aggression from Bert and score just one more round to him than the majority, and it instantly becomes a wide' card.

So a 2 point win for Beter, on the face of it a clear win, but of course no way in hell there was a clear cut win.

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
I had it 116 - 112 Bivol. Just seemed to me that Beterbiev success was very limited and he hit gloves most of the night. He walked forward but wasn’t throwing a great deal that was hitting the target in my view, yes he had success in rounds but it was the Bivol jab and his flurry’s that seemed to be hitting the target far more often. Frankly I did not have a dog in this fight, didn’t bet on it and had no preference on who I wanted to win.
Typically I’d score rounds to the aggressor when the rounds are tight, but again I didn’t see many of the Bivol or Beterbiev rounds as that tight. I was shocked at the judge who gave it draw, and when the 116-112 was called out I didn’t for a minute think Beterbiev had got the decision. Watched boxing too long to be annoyed by the decision, but it felt very dodgy.

I would not say it was a robbery, I had it tightly the other way though.

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
115-113 Bivol but can see a draw or same card for Beterbiev, 116-112 seems a stretch for me but a lot of people had Beterbiev winning by a round so 1 round difference from them ain't all that bad, harsh but a round closer, Bert still gets it
Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
Winner , well i thought at the end Bivol only just , BUT was thinking a draw would'nt be too bad , both had there great moments , Was,nt a robbery and could of gone either way , once again though its the odd judge who stuffs it up

I like the fact Bivol rightly or wrongly acknowledges he wasn't busy enough at times, his IQ is elite level, if Beterbiev didn't KO him in a rematch I'd take Bivol more handily next time

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
I ended up wanting Biev to win and was wanting him to really force the fight down the straight, but felt that Bivol snuck it by a round. A few of the rounds though had the pressure and volume from Biev against the movement and more accurate punching from Bivol ie they could have went either way.
The 116-112 was off the mark though. I thought it was going to Bivol when I heard that score.

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
I thought Bivol 7-5 or a draw, but Bert’s pressure was relentless and I would consider it effective.
Lots of close rounds, I could see it anywhere form about 8-4 either way at a slightttt stretch (7-5 either way at zero stretch)
Not a robbery in comparison to some real robberies. But a decision much less than 50% of people agree with.

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
I personally scored it a draw but boxing news posted the results of the people who use their app & score it on a round by round basis & they had 115-113 Berterbiev as the average score. That’s people actually scoring it after each round not just saying afterwards ‘I felt so & so won’ without posting a scorecard.
I think you can fairly get to 116-112 for each fighter but 116-112 seems pretty harsh as it means you’re giving all the close rounds to one of the fighters.
I do find it laughable that Hearn is claiming it as some kind of robbery given some of the disgraceful scoring that he’s been comfortable with over the years.

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
Yep, I think that’s one of the things that never gets spoken about enough.
A lot of us scoring at home might give a close round to one fighter because we gave the last close round to the other. But, as I understand it, the judges are supposed to score each round as if it were a one round fight.
You’re right the 116-112 card gave all the close rounds to Beterbiev but I think there was only round 4 that he gave to Beterbiev without at least on of the others scoring for AB too.
Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
Interestingly ALL 3 judges ringside agreed on 10 of the 12 rounds with the judges only disagreeing on two of the rounds … 4 and 7 . In both 4 and 7 2 of the 3 judges gave it to Bertebiev. So when singling out one judge need to consider he saw every round the same as the majority of the 3 ringside

Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
it was very close with a lot of swing rounds and the guys fighting in contrasting styles, you could feasibly have it several different ways.
some people feeling sorry for bivol but i thought he barely won a clear round after the second. and also that he finished poorly and lost the last three.
for people who think bivol was robbed, im curious what rounds they think he won beyond reasonable doubt

Yeh, just depends on what you looking for.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑14 Oct 2024, 06:17 it was very close with a lot of swing rounds and the guys fighting in contrasting styles, you could feasibly have it several different ways.
If you give the wing rounds to Bert, then he's the winner.
Only issue i had was 116-112, but even with all swings in Bert's favour, it's not bad.
Most people wont score fights round by round and at the end, just add their two pence in. "I think Bivol won", or hear someone shout 'robbery' like Hearn and just become a sheep.
Re: Was Beterbiev vs Bivol a robbery?
Watched it two times already. Entertaining fight with close rounds and hard to score. Both fighters deserve to win. But if i should choose the winner it would be Beterbiev. He looked fresher at the end and won championship rounds IMO. I would have bigger problem with SD for Bivol probably. Hopefuly rematch will happen asap.
