I think Floyd toyed with CM and carried him rounds to make it look competitive and had one eye on a rematch.

That’s how i saw it. He spent more time in a high guard in that fight than any other I could remember. As you say stood right in front of McGregor.Coco wrote: ↑21 Oct 2024, 17:35 PBF deliberately stood in front of him, made him work, parried his shots and wore him out
Yes PBF was past his best, which is why he took that fight and other walk abouts to earn the big money.
His tactics were perfect to use what he had left.
He was never a one punch banger
McGregor looked knackered at the finish. I think there was something that prompted Mayweather to end it when he’d did like a punch on the break or similar.

FMM said he waited til after 25 mins to really step it up.
By then he knew CM would be knackered .
25 mins is UFC full 5 rounds complete..
McGregor only done that once in a very long time against Diaz, Cus usually he was stopping guys or getting stopped in earlier rounds.

FMM also said he done minimal training for the McGregor fight. He carried him, it was a glorified sparring session for him.
Re: Why can't boxers comfortably beat crossovers?
Yeah of course Floyd didn’t train for the fight….

So the guy who has been the consummate professional all the way along, the guy who’s biggest advantage over his opponents throughout his career was his level of conditioning, just says fook it I won’t bother for this one it’s only McGregor. Can’t see it somehow.

I agree, what I mean is that he didn't go that extra mile.
Especially as his plan wasn't to out work him, but outlast him, making the Irishman work at a pace he wasn't comfortable with by standing in front of him.
Furthermore when yo are hitting 40, it's nigh impossible to have that level of fitness.
He knew that by picking the likes of Berto at the end of his career

It was always a huge ask for McGregor, someone whose stamina in MMA was already pretty suspect, up against one of the best conditioned boxers of modern times.

McGregor rehydrated to around 170lbs on fight night whereas FMM invariably stays the same weight he weighs in at. Easiest money FMM ever made.
