Number of Hall Famers they Beat
On another thread, a few guys were mentioned and the question of how many Hall of Famers they beat came up.
Thought this would be fun. Without picking the very best of a division, here is a list of some random guys and how many Hall of Famers they beat.
Corbett - 2
Fitzsimmons - 2
Jeannette -3
McVey - 3
Sharkey - 5
Schmeling - 4
Baer - 1
Walcott -2
Patterson - 2
Delaney -4
Loughran - 6
Bivins - 4
Harold Johnson -4
Torres - 2
Ketchel - 2
Benvenuti -2
Fullmer -2
Griffth - 3
Tiger -4
Any surprises of someone who had more or less than you might expect?.

A good reminder that Nino Benevuti and especially Dick Tiger get a bit overlooked.

Wanted to say that I was using my old Boxing Register Book to look this up. Some of these guys might have more if their opponents were elected after the book came out. i,e Joe Thomas was not in yet.pound per pound wrote: ↑22 Oct 2024, 12:32Starting with Corbett, he beat fiveAmbling Alp II wrote: ↑22 Oct 2024, 10:48 On another thread, a few guys were mentioned and the question of how many Hall of Famers they beat came up.

And some of it was omissions on my part.
Corbett for example, had 5 -Choynski, Kilrain, Sullivan, Mitchell and McCoy.
Still coming up with only 3 for Fitzsimmons -Dempsey, Sharkey, and Corbett. Who am I missing?

I am guessing that you are counting the 6-round no-decision that Boxrec has for Fitzsimmons over O'Brien. I wasn't counting no-decisions. Actually, the Boxing Register has it as O'Brien as winning the newspaper decision!
.
Obviously, Fitzsimmons was one of the greats.

Did you read mine? Bob's fight with Joe Choy was really a TKO win, not a draw!.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑31 Oct 2024, 08:48Guessing you didn't read my previous post.pound per pound wrote: ↑26 Oct 2024, 09:43For Fitzsimmons it is FOUR. "But for police interference Bob Fitzsimmons would have signally defeated Joe Choynski last night at the Boston Theatre. The decision was a draw. Joe was the victim of abuse administered by Fitz to such an extent that he was knocked down three times in the last round, and when Sgt. Sullivan and Capt. Warren of Station 4 walked into the arena Choynski was helpless on the ropes. The 5th had gone on 1:40 when it was stopped. Fitz had Choynski on the ropes and ready to give him the last punches when Referee Daly went over and separated the men. This he shouldn't have done, in the opinion of many there. These men claim that he saved Choynski from defeat. Just after he separated the men, Sgt. Sullivan, followed by a half-dozen bluecoats, leaped on the stage, with Capt. Warren outside of the ring. The edict went forth that the battle should stop, and according to the articles was declared a draw, as there was a clause calling for such a decision, in case of police interference, provided both men were on their feet." -The Boston Post
So it as a crooked ref who like bet on Choynski.

Re: Number of Hall Famers they Beat
i think I read about this in an old book called "the Legendary Champions". People did think Fitz got hosed. Guess if depends on whether you want to go by the official count or not.
