Shalom needs a fight to keep in with Turki, Eubank is one of the few fighters he has left, Turki would love to put someone on like Canelo.
If the money is right I'm sure it could happen

Would be a good spectacle, but Canelo will stop Eubank faster than you can say, 'Why did he just throw three uppercuts in a row?'
If Beefy can do it, Canelo can do it quicker and probably more devastatingly. It's not something I'd pay for.

Canelo and his excellency don’t like each other. They also don’t really need each other, Canelo makes millions upon millions every fight he has.

You then add in Eubank Jr has an over inflated opinion of his own value. He’ll probably argue he deserves 50-50 because he had the IBO title. Canelo will quickly move to one of the other 4 or 5 candidates vying for a fight with him very quickly once he sees how unbearable Jr is to try and deal with.

I can see this happening.
Canelo coming to the UK or Saudi as both want a lot of $$$$

Frankly Canelo toys with CEJ and stops him whenever he wants

He’s got beef with the UK cos of Eddie. Plus he’s always high. And if it did sell out Wembley many people would be coming to see Canelo. Oscar doesn’t realise the Eubank name carries weight in the UK. Anyway won’t happen and Eubank would get battered

We love a bit of banter over here and almost love it if someone makes fun or insults us.

Americans on the other hand are incredible, you make fun of them even in a clearly humorous way and they are absolutely seething.

Canelo makes fortunes from pay per view.

The UK time zone doesn't work for US audiences, so the PPV sales would be damaged.

Why wound Canelo, coming to the end of his career, leave tens of millions of dollars on the table to go and fight in the UK?

It never made the slightest bit of sense and was very obviously total bullshit.

Reynoso has now come out and confirmed it was a total lie and that no negotiations of any kind have been underway for Canelo to fight Eubank in the UK.

Desperate headline grabbing, imo

I still don't understand why Boxxer want Chris at this stage of a career that has gradually fizzled out, without any notable achievements.
His age is my main stumbling block, sure some guys do have Cinderella tail ends to their careers, but at 35, I feel it's almost time for the curtains to close.

Canelo tells UK fight fans he "dreams of fighting in the UK" the way touring bands tell stadiums "OMG you guys here in <name of city> are the loudest, craziest fans we've ever had. Make some noiiiiiiise!"

You'll notice Canelo only speaks of his dearly held British dreams when he's talking to UK reporters for UK publications. We also had Unbiased Eddie telling us the same when he was working with Canelo.

Again, not a cat in hells chance he leaves millions of dollars on the table in lost ppv revenue so he live the dream of a wet windy weekend at Wembley. And he's certainly not crossing the pond for CEJ.

He is far and away the biggest name on their roster. If he even is on their roster. They announced "a partnership", not a fighter signing.

Probably Boxxer is just the logistics arm and all the negotiating and scheduling is done by Eubanks people. (Remember when Hearn was saying he talks to Eubanks team and doesn't need to speak to Boxxer? That's probably why.)

Or maybe he actually wants to fight here and he's prepared to take a possible pay cut to do it. Johnny Tapia did it.

With all due respect to Tapia, he was nowhere near the marquee name Canelo is. Tapia was a legend in his own way, but to the real boxing fans, not the mainstream sports world.

Tapia certainly wasn't leaving tens of millions on the table when he elected to fight at York Hall.

The only way Canelo would fight in London is if the Saudis underwrite the tens of millions he would be losing in ppv revenue. And the way the Saudis are already pulling spend back, I don't see that being a thing.

But we will see, I guess. My prediction is Young Chris hasn't fought him by this time next year.

When you think Jr is 35 - His dad walked away at 32 and with the fights he had under his belt. Safe to say that in comparison Jr's career has been underwhelming, however his earnings have not.

In a nutshell, their shows have all lost millions and the PIF (Saudi state fund) has told them no more wasting money on overseas shows. All spend now to be in Riyadh.

This tells us a few things.

1- the people of Infinite Money aren't idiots. Just because they have infinite money doesn't mean they are prepared to throw it away by the truckload for no gain.

2- the Saudi boxing thing will eventually wind down. When it started, money was no object. Temperature was at 100. Now that's already climbed down - "no wasting money overseas". As the novelty wears off and boxing turns out to do nothing at all for Saudi tourism, the temperature will drop further.

3- every promoter should try and take all the money off the table now while it's there. We've seen evidence already now that Saudi temperature on boxing can drop and will drop. We're also running out of huge marquee fights soon. Eventually we will have Fury Joshua and that will be the death knell of it all, the final big battle for the casual fanbase. All viewer numbers will be way downhill after that, further lowering Saudi enthusiasm.

Earlier this month, Bob Arum, the chief executive of boxing promotion Top Rank (which is partnered with Riyadh Season), explained that the Riyadh Season brand will no longer be holding boxing cards outside of Saudi Arabia.

This is ostensibly due to the lack of success that the brand’s last Los Angeles event (Bivol vs Beterbiev) saw, as well as pushback against chief Turki Alalshikh from internal higher-ups in Saudi Arabia for staging events outside the country.

According to a report by Kevin Iole, the Saudis’ first US effort at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, with Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov as the main event, “likely lost more than $10 million” and that “scores of tickets– thousands of them” had to be given away for the mega-hyped event held at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

Hey, thanks a lot for that. Appreciate the effort :salut:
Gosh, I said at the beginning that the Saudis were fickle and the money could dry up overnight on a whim. Well if they keep it up just over Riyadh, will we get a sort of Canelo opponent situation where guys just sit around on their belts until the season and boxing sucks for the rest of the year.. I hope not.

It seems they jump from one thing to another losing interest quickly , Newcastle's world domination floundered on FFP and they don't seem to care about doing a Man City. It was obvious these big cards were losing a fortune, the locals in Saudi don't care and it will be back to normal type shows before long.
